There certainly is more than enough hypocrisy to go around on this topic.
The DA in Duke case hasn't been disbarred? He still has a job?
Capus' and his remarks about an integrity policy at NBC News?
Sharpton and Jackson's racist, anti-Semitic views?
Imus' anti-Semitic and other racially insensitive remarks over time didn't get him fired but these three words did?
As abhorrent as his remarks were both in this case and over time, the 1st amendment is relevant here, just as it was when Nazis were allowed to march in Skokie, IL. He didn't yell fire in a crowded theater where there was no fire. He made a mean-spirited, hateful, racist remark. In an ideal world, the best thing to do is change the station. If enough people do so and don't tune back in, the market says take him off the air.
There should be consequences for his remark, but I don't think he should've been fired. _________________ "Win without boasting, lose without crying." -- Julius Erving |

part of his job though LS is to keep the sponsors giving money by keeping the ratings. even if the ratings are fine and the sponsors pull out, i don't see why he shouldn't be canned. in this case several sponsors were pulling out or had already so he'd gone. the fact is he represents NBC or CBS in whatever he's saying, especially when he's saying it on the air. freedom of speach doesn't really apply when you are a corporate rep. _________________ Owls will deafen us with incessant hooting! |

No doubt that a punisment was deserved.
But firing the guy? The punishment doesn't fit the crime. A suspension along with a stipulation to change the show might have been a more suitable option.
The team accepted his apology, but he loses his job?
Doesn't seem fair to me. _________________ "Win without boasting, lose without crying." -- Julius Erving |

| Im with you on this one LS. But he will end up on his feet because some company knows that they will make a whole bunch of money off of him, esp. with his first/next live broadcast, wherever it may be. I don't really like the guy all that much, but he got a raw deal with this whole situation - i guess thats just the way it works when advertising pays the bills. |
