Anyone know how I can get a picture to be "height no greater than 125 pixels, and the file size no more than 24 KB" for my Avatar? Thanks _________________ Any team, any time, any place |

If you're not very computer literate, the easiest thing is probably to do a Google search for an "avatar maker". Most operate by letting you pick an image on your hard drive, select a maximum number of pixels, then click a button.
If you use Windows, another option is to open Paint in the Accessories folder, open the image, then select Attributes from the Image menu. But Paint does a crappy job resizing images, they start looking ragged pretty quickly.
For simple cropping and re-sizing edits and changing the file type/compression algorithm I use a program called IrfanView. It does a clean job, and is small and freeware, though it doesn't do "photoshopping", just simple changes. It's out there somewhere in the Googleverse.
EDIT: if the filesize limit remains a problem, make sure you're saving the image in GIF or JPG format. BMP images tend to use disk space very inefficiently, though they look the nicest because they don't compress the image data. |
