Connolly is out. Heard it from multiple sources from his hometown. Rumors flying that he's headed to Virginia for his final year. No idea how he got the eligibility. Also, he somehow would have had to waive the rule that transfers must sit out a year if they move within their division.
Big blow to the attack for next year. |

IF true, it sounds like UM did not buy in on him seeking an extra year. _________________ Feeling entitled is JUST a feeling... |

That transfer rule.....doesn't that get negated by a grad school situation? Didn't Lon Kruger's kid gain the ability to play a year under his dad at UNLV as a first year grad student? There was some tweak in the rule, I know that.
Found it.....
| Quote: | Kevin Kruger became the first college basketball player to use a new rule that allows players to transfer without sitting out a year as long as they graduated and have one year of eligibility remaining.
Kruger, the top returning scorer for Arizona State, graduated this week after the first summer session. Once he had his degree, he informed Sun Devils coach Herb Sendek that he was off to play for his father, Lon Kruger, at UNLV next season. Kruger redshirted his first season at ASU.
Kruger is using widely scrutinized Rule 2005-54, which states: "To permit a student-athlete who is enrolled in a specific graduate degree program of an institution other than the institution from which he or she previously received a baccalaureate degree to participate in intercollegiate athletics regardless of any previous transfer."
The rule's intent is to allow students who have graduated in four years (and have one year of eligibility remaining) to transfer to attend graduate school. |

There have been players going from UVa to Syracuse for his last year, Zach Greer (the leading NCAA goal scorer) went from Duke to Bryant for last season, to use 2 prominent examples. Especially not knowing what he's going to grad school for - UMass might not even have his program. |

He has to graduate first. That won't happen until the fall according to an newpaper article here:

| Quote: | | The hospitality and tourism management major, who said that he'll have to return to campus in the fall to finish up his degree |
I guess if he graduates in the fall, he could transfer and play somewhere else next spring. |

Greer got a bonus year because of the way Duke turned the rape scandal in to a clusterfuck. Greer chose Bryant because that's where Pressler went. So no, Greer is not an example as he was given a 5th year of eligiblity because of Duke, whereas Connolly would be different in that he would getting his 4th year back instead of gaining an extra year.

I was just checking Virginia's roster to see if Connolly was on there. He's not.
But I did find this interesting tidbit on this kid ...
http://www.virginiasports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=88762&SPID=10601&DB_OEM_ID=17800&ATCLID=1383729&Q_SEASON=2009
Says his mom was a two-time All American lacrosse player at UMass. They don't have a maiden name, but I assume she is the former Cari Nickerson, who was on the team in the late 70s and led the team in scoring a couple times. He also went to HS just up the road at Deerfield Academy. I wonder if Coach Cannella went after this guy?
This isn't supposed to be any kind of criticism, just an observation.
BTW, what's Connolly's status? He's not on our roster, not on UVa.'s Did he get his year back and where will he be spending it? Enquiring minds want to know. _________________ Peace is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading |

| When did UMass's fall semester grades come out? UVa's spring semester begins Jan. 20 if my brief searching is correct. I would guess add/drop would close 2-3 weeks after that. |
