That's pretty much the deal the Krafts made with the MIAA for the high school Super Bowls. No charge to use the facility, but they set the ticket prices and keep a chunk of the gate (and all of the concessions revenue). A split gate would have to be part of the deal, otherwise it wouldn't make sense for UMass (or UNH) to throw away one of their biggest gates every two years when they're already losing money in football.
The Krafts didn't charge for parking for the high schools either, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did charge (hopefully not $40 per car) for this one considering there would be tailgating and presumably they would need staffing to operate/patrol the lots in that regard.
The Krafts also produced the TV broadcasts of the Super Bowl games, but chances are Comcast Sports would be handling that end of things already through the current deal with the CAA. _________________ I wrote this ... it's gotta be true.

| Has Massachusetts officially committed to hosting the 2011 game at Gillette? |

| No. Even the UNH game is still officially unofficial. |

So when they don't show up to play, we'll win by forfeit! _________________ "All life we work, but work is a bore. If life's for living, what's living for?" - Ray Davies |

Hope they beat Pitt.
They have a nice schedule 2 home games a month for September, October and November. Meanwhile Massachusetts has a terrible home schedule. 2 home games between 9/18 and 11/06. What a disservice to the fans. |

If the Gillette thing works out, we'll pretty much have 2 home games in October back-to-back.
I love how the "time" for the Open Date is "ALL DAY". |

BULLPUCKIES !
We won't "pretty much have 2 home games in October back-to back"
Our Home Field is on campus in Amherst MA. Warren McGuirk Stadium. We don't play home games at some corporate NFL stadium near the Rhode Island border in southeastern mass. We play home games on the Flagship Campus of the University of Massachusetts. We have a homefield advantage and a great homefield tailgaiting and fan focussed environment that has been getting better every year for the past 5-6 years. We should be pissed to have hardly any home games between September and November.
Even if this cockamamie idea comes to fruition - we would not be the home team - we would be the visiting team. |

So what's the issue? We play in Durham or we play in Foxboro, which is an easier ride for most of us, and a much better tailgating situation than the joke known as Cowell Stadiim. The following season when it would be a home game for us? Well, maybe then you might at least have an argument, though I would still not be opposed to playing at Gillette. |

Not to mention, it's very possible that we could draw more fans who support UMass to one game at Gillette than we would for our top two best-drawing home games at McGuirk combined.
When you couple that with the players' excitement over playing on an NFL field, which will only help recruiting, there is no way this could ever be spun as a bad thing outside of individuals being inconvenienced - which, lets face it, is tough luck considering the current arrangement hasnt gotten UMass to the financial level it needs to be at, so the university surely isnt gonna scrap a new and exciting idea over a few folks' grumbling.
I can understand not wanting to go to Foxboro over McGuirk, but any free-thinking fan with the best interests of the program in mind cant condemn this idea for the team and the university, at least as something to be tried out. |

Jack, look at the bright side. Now you can intentionally avoid IV's tailgate at some corporate NFL stadium near the Rhode Island border in southeastern mass! _________________ "Weren't we up by 14?" - 78 |

If you are guaranteeing 30K for this game that isn't even scheduled then that is fine. But there is no way that playing in foxboro is a home game. Massachusetts plays home games on campus in Amherst, not in southeastern mass. As it stands right now Massachusetts has the worst home football schedule we have had in 20 years.
If IV and the rest of you think its wonderful to play 1 home game between mid september and early november then that is up to you. Personally I think it sucks and is yet another reason to upgrade. Our own conference is undermining us w/shit scheduling. Thanks CAA !!! |
