How is the UMASS baseball team this year? They play two games here in Norman, I believe the games two weeks from now. It will be a good time for me to see my alma mater play hopefully my future alma mater.

I will be doing a baseball preview on my blog very soon. The early prediction had them finishing 7th in the A-10. We surprised people last season and made the A-10 tourney, even winning our first game. Glad they will have support down in OK.

PS: the game is against OSU not OU

They have games against Oklahoma State AND Oklahoma. Our friend from Oklahoma references two games against the Sooners - those two games are on March 16, 17 in Norman.

He'll probably promise to, and then end up going to the Oklahoma game.

The only way he's still in Oklahoma is if his team is playing at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City. Having basically a home game in the tourney would make him very happy, I'm sure. Wink

Here ia a link to the whole schedule. Mike Stone spoke at the luncheon on Wed. The reason they are going out to Oklahoma this year for the first games instead of Florida is cost. They have three league games, series, played away that require the team to take flights at a cost of around $ 24,000. Oklahoma State is picking up most of the costs of playing there, flights, lodging and meals. An offer he could just not refuse. Good for them to play some different oponents for a change. He also said that he was debating whether to take 12 or 13 pitchers on the trip because of the amount of games in a short period of time. Concidering that he only gets the equivalent of 2.3 scholarships he does do pretty well. I don't remember the amount of players that have been drafted by major league teams but I think that it is the 40"s.

Both Oklahoma and Oklahoma State were in the playoffs last year (the Sooners were the 7 seed).

Both OU and OSU are pretty young teams this year, lots of new players. OU has a kid with the last name of Buechelle whose dad played for years with the Rangers and Cubs who is just killing the ball right now. OU's closer is absolutely shut down.

UMass will be bending over to these teams, like TF bends over to T Boone Pickens every month.

Baseball is a weird sport, just look at Xavier for example

They knock off Georgia Tech and then lose to a bad Wake Forest team.

While I'm am not expecting any wins I don't see this team pulling a La Salle on the first weekend

Momentum in baseball = your starting pitcher for the next game!

Tough day for UMass sports so far. BB lost the first game 10-1 and are behind 17-1 in the seventh inning. Men's lacross lost 14-13 and women's lacross lost 13-6. Hope the hockey team can pull out a win to keep our teams from getting swept this weekend.
