| other than one play on defense and the entire kicking game, that first half was about perfect. |

Watched the game on CSNE, and certainly a nice win with fantastic defensive plays by Tyler Holmes. (two pick-sixes). Running game not bad, but as someone previously posted, it may be time to throw a pass on first down once in a while!
As an aside, (and I do hope that someone at the game chimes in), was the crowd very subdued? I understand that the CSNE cablecast would have to be labeled a "low-end" production, without a lot of sideline parabolic microphones etc, but the place resembles a morgue as it comes across on TV. Didn't look like a huge crowd either, considering the bands that were forced to be there. No crowd noise makes it to the TV, and I won't even get into how terrible the broadcasters are. But suffice it to say that Gresh, while knowlegable, never shuts up for a second, and Tanguay just looks and sounds like he'd rather be anywhere but a college football game in Amherst. Just my .02 |

| Good win. Still lots of issues, especially special teams, and need to elevate our game bigtime next week. But if you had told me before the season that we'd be 6-3 at this point, I would have been delighted. Let's get a big crowd out for the female chickens! |

Good win. Finally got those takeaways I've been begging for, and even turned it into points. Holmes is defintely going be in the running to win the Buchhanan. Play calling was better at times. Still sometimes they need to work on. I'll say more later, time to eat. Bring on Delaware! _________________ Any team, any time, any place |

RE the crowd...yes it's always a morgue at UMass football games.
Great win, great game by Tyler Holmes. Should win national defensive player of the week and maybe the Buchannon award. I thought both sides of the ball played well but not special teams. Horrid game for ST. Defense let up a little in 2nd half which is understandable but shouldn't happen. Also would like to publically apologize to Kyle Havens for doubting him before the season and after the Richmond game. He is vastly improved from last season and is leading our team to the playoffs.
Radio guys brought up a good point: had UMass beat Richmond, next week's game would be for the CAA crown. They also pointed out that with two wins and some help, UMass could tie for the CAA crown with DEL and WM, both teams they would have the head-to-head advantage over. _________________ http://youtu.be/8i5A1Pn0z6k |

The crowd always is quiet. Today wasn't as bad as homecoming, in my opinion.
The students didn't show up at all. Their 3 sections were empty. I'd guess maybe a couple of hundred. Other than that, it was pretty full. However, usually there are a lot of UMass band parents who couldn't care less about the game. Now not only were there UMass band parents who couldn't care less, there were bunch of high school/middle school band parents who couldn't care less. That might explain the quietness. However, the high school/middle school bands were decently loud. It wasn't as bad as home coming, where I literally felt like I was in the library and got the feeling people were upset that I was cheering.
Other things:
1) UMass had an early penalty called on them in the second quarter I think. They were down inside the Maine 10 yard line. Morris fought with the ref and the penalty was never called. Next play Hernandez ran for a touchdown. If we're gonna rip Morris for everything he does wrong, might as well give him credit when things go well.
2) The PA guy at McGuirk really needs to wake up. How many times tonight did he say "John Griffin on the tackle" tonight? He also screwed up down and distance multiple times. I don't think he pays attention. It was sort of funny the first couple of times opening day. It got old real fast and now it just hinders my enjoyment of the game. _________________ I wish Hockey East was an all-sports conference. |

I think that was the most comfortable Kyle Havens has looked in long time. He was on the money all day -- the only bad throw I can remember was the 2 pt conversion try. And as always he threw really well on the rollouts, in either direction. It helped that the receivers caught absolutely everything, but the ball was put in the right spots.
Official attendance was 12121. Can't set an average attendance record even with a sellout against Delaware, but 15034 would be enough to stay over 14000 for the year, which would be the second best year since the championship. |

| Its pretty bad when we have only 8K paid attendance (4000 for bands tv said) in a game where UMass is fighting for their playoff lives. The support for UMass athletics sucks. |
