| Message board rumors almost always exaggerate what eventually happens (or U Texas would be in 3 different conferences by now), but wow did Barbee pick an unlucky time to move to Auburn. The rumors flying around now are potential loss of accreditation and being kicked out if the SEC for the RICO/bribery/TARP investigation involving half the Auburn Board of Trustees that caught them on wiretaps discussing pay for play schemes. I'm assuming those scenarios won't actually happen, but at the least the NCAA will be coming down hard on Auburn for a long period of time - I hope for Tony's sake the hammer comes down entirely on the football program and doesn't hit the rest of the athletic department. |

Tony's lucky that the Cam Newton and the Auburn football team are dominating the sports headlines, because his basketball team has certainly gotten off to a rocky start:
11/12, home, UNC Asheville, L 70-69 (OT)
11/19, home, Samford, L 79-68
11/20, home, Campbell, L 61-54
11/21, home, Middle Tennessee (Sun Belt), W 68-66
11/27, home, Jacksonville, L 69-55
11/30, home, Georgia Southwestern (D2), W 78-50
12/05, home, AR - Pine Bluff (SWAC), W 76-72
Zoinks! Makes losing to Maine seem like nothing |

Auburn is 7-9 at the moment, having been the sacrificial lamb at Kentucky on Tuesday, 78-54. Good Barbee-Calipari story:

You think we have trouble shooting? In Saturday's LSU/Auburn game, Barbee's squad trailed 32-6 at the half. They went 2-24 in the first half. They woke up though, but still lost 62-55. |

Auburn at least "woke up" in that game. We've been in a"deep sleep"
offensively for the better part of 8 games! |

Oh, Man, I feel for Tony. It doesn't take much of a stretch for us here to imagine what the message board fans must be saying down there. _________________ Always remember that you are unique, just like everyone else. |

I currently live in Birmingham, I dont read the message boards but Auburn fans are talking more about who's going to be the new Auburn football kicker than about basketball. On the WEEI/Sports Hub version of radio in Alabama, they talk college basketball for basically a quick segment per week, the rest about college football. In fact, theyre already running an announcement everyday to countdown the number of days until the 2011 college football season kicks off
A few weeks ago, I saw them play in person. It makes me laugh reading people complaining about the dribble drive offense at UMass, if you want to see a bad offense take a look at this Auburn team, yikes!!
Hopefully Barbee turns it around, because pretty soon Auburn fans will come down from their National Championship high and realize how bad their basketball team is _________________ Where UMass Happens:

Ugh, that sucks that Barbee and company have to deal with this. Hopefully everyone who had nothing to do with it gets fully cleared by the investigators.
And the timing of this is pretty bad, as Auburn tries to extend their season in their first-round game of the SEC tournament. They (#10) take on #7 Ole Miss at 7:30. |

“Kids have to learn a lesson,” Barbee said of Denson last week. “It’s bigger than sports. It’s about life. Sports – including what we do, basketball – is a great opportunity and a great vehicle to teach these kids life lessons. … He had to suffer the consequences for some bad decisions.”
Looks like Barbee was listening when Calipari's coaching went beyond the Xs and Os. Auburn is in a tough spot, but they have a head coach who can handle the heat in the kitchen. |

^ Thankfully so do we.
I like the way DK disciplined Javorn after the T vs. Dayton. UMass could've used him against Temple, but he stuck to his guns.
Javorn responded with two of his best games in a UMass uniform.
Proud of Calipari for producing coaches like these two guys. _________________ "Win without boasting, lose without crying." -- Julius Erving |

| Auburn lost to Ole Miss tonight, so their season is likely over at 15-16. At least one of those two lesser tournaments has invited a team(s) with a losing record before, so I guess there's a chance for Auburn, but not likely. |
