Not much there -- wasn't too impressed. But the YouTube highlight changed my mind a bit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGNU_lr-0U8

I really thought his highlight film was impressive. He has a funky fall away on his jump shot but seems like he can shoot the rock. More importantly he seems athletic in getting to the rim. Comer seemed more of a role player type recruit and point guard, where someone like Harper could be looked at as a major contributor.

Heard that VCU is starting to get in on him as well.

Another good sign on this kid is that I tweeted him about how we'd love to see him in UMass colors next year and he re-tweeted out comments.

Cam just a heads up but you really shouldn't be tweeting with potential recruits. You can get the school in trouble.

Him and his buddy were talking about how cold UMass is and how he doesn't like the cold. His friend made a joke that they offered to the wrong person and this is what he had to say:

@Sir_Uno
Arlon Harper

@kharon_b haha I mean the campus nd shit nice plus they play in the Atlantic 10 nd they only have one point but it's like 40 down here smh

Who is considered a representative of UMass athletics interests (booster)?
According to NCAA regulations, a representative of UMass athletics interests (booster) is any person who:

•Has ever made a financial contribution to the department of athletics.
•Is or has ever been a season ticket holder in any sport.

Quote:
#
INTERACTIONS WITH PROSPECTS:
Since coaches must be certified to recruit and are the only permissible off-campus recruiters, a representative of the institution's athletic interest:
# MAY NOT make in-person, on-campus or off-campus recruiting contacts with prospective student-athletes, their relatives or legal guardians. This prohibition includes written and telephone communications.
# MAY NOT contact prospective student-athlete's coaches, principals or counselors in an attempt to evaluate the prospective student-athletes.
# MAY NOT visit the prospective student-athlete's school to acquire film or transcripts for purposes of evaluating their athletic or academic eligibility.
# MAY NOT entertain, provide tickets or gifts and other benefits to a junior or senior in high school, prep school, or two-year college coaches, athletic director or for any other individual responsible for teaching or directing an activity in which a prospective student-athlete is involved.
# MAY NOT contribute to the payment of registration fees for prospective student-athletes to attend summer sports camps.
# MAY NOT mail anything, including newspapers, posters, programs, media guides, clippings, etc. to prospective student-athletes.
# MAY NOT contribute to the payment of transportation costs for prospective student-athletes or their relatives or friends to visit the UMass campus. This includes commercial or private transportation by car, train, or plane.
# MAY NOT contact enrolled student-athletes at other four-year colleges to explore the possibilities of them transferring to UMass and its athletic programs.

Even if I was in any qualified as a "booster". I don't believe I did any of the above such things. Obviously I would not do it again if the line is so blurry anyway. Thanks for the heads up.

Not sure that this exclusively belongs in this thread, but I notice that a lot of people will post You Tube videos of prospective recruits. I think its great to get a quick look at what some of them look like.

However, to make judgements about someone's skills, shot, ability to success, contribute to a team, be a star in college, etc. based on an edited highlight clip is a bit questionable. If you took the highlight reel from Big City Bailey when he dove for that rebound or made a few put backs, you might think the guy was a beast and an unbelievable hustler.

Just remember everyone looks good on the highlight reels. You never see any featured player turn it over, miss a shot (unless they get the rebound and slam it home) or do anything less than impressive.

I suspect that tweeting would be considered something along the lines of written and/or telephone conversations. While there is a laundry list of things you can do to be considered a booster, I don't think it is meant to be exclusive. In a circular kind of way, just reaching out to a recruit while they are off campus is probably sufficient to be considered a booster, as opposed to meeting the recruit while they are on campus and you are acting in your capacity as a student, which is fine. The rules seem wacky, but there is always something that happened at Nebraska [1] that made them put the rule in there in the first place. I am willing to bet there is some sort of recruiting scandal related to social media that makes the news in the near future - just as soon as the NCAA figures out what twitter is.

footnote [1] Not to pick on Nebraska. It might have happened at Oklahoma, too.

I agree with the highlight tape comment, but it does give you somewhat of a sense of what they can do on the floor in certain situations.

Based on this tweet I saw tonight, looks like we might not be getting Arlon:

Sir_UnoArlon Harper

I hope I could one day be able to wear the same jersey @KMeezy1 wore. It would be an honor

@KMeezy1 is Kelvin Martin who played at Charleston Southern, the school that Arlon visited after leaving UMass: http://www.csusports.com/profile.asp?playerID=1173
