From everything I've read and seen, Gurley is a great guy, and I wish him the best. But I think his pro prospects are limited. I was just looking at some stats on Kenpom last night--Anthony was 38th in the a10 in effective shooting percentage (that's a stat the combines 3 pt shots with 2's, by giving extra credit to made 3's). That's not very impressive.

The overall offensive rating is even more interesting.

I don't know how this is computed--you have to have the book and I don't--but I would assume it includes things like offensive rebounds and assists. In this stat, he is 52nd out of the top 84 in the league. Our player with the best offensive rating is----->>>>Sean Carter!!! Our next best player is Sampson Carter.

(If you check the link, scroll down to the bottom to see the top 84 players. The charts on the top of the page are only for players who controlled high percentages of their teams possessions. In fact, the very first chart is for players who controlled 28% or more of their team's possessions, and there were only eight of those. A different page, %POSS shows that Anthony controlled more of his team's possessions when on the floor than any other player in the a10.)

You have to believe that your mates can score. If you don't give up the ball, you never learn who can score. I hope this year we distribute more.

And they didn't show they could score so it's a moot point. This was one of the worst shooting teams I have ever seen and the notion that it was because Anthony dominated the ball is silly. This team would have won 10 games without Gurley. Puts me in awe how much blame he gets/got.

And Len holloway was 24th efg. Is he not that good either?

This is the nationally ratings of percentage of possessions used, which means either the guy shot the ball or turned it over. These teams that are up there with us and Gurley strike me as a bunch of mediocre teams, with, of course, some blatant exceptions (BYU, UCon). I don't blame Anthony because I don't think he was responsible. If the coaches wanted him to pass the ball more and shoot less, that's what he would have done.

Believe what you will. It's not that he dominated the ball. It's that he would lower his head (making it impossible to see open teammates) and drive right into waiting double and triple coverage leading to turnovers. The team appeared better when other players were involved. As the season wore on, Gurley tried to do it all. DK and most of the players seemed content with that and the results are now all to obvious. I'm not faulting AG for wanting to shoulder the load, more his execution, and DK's inability to form a cohesive offense with the players available.

As I've said, stats are great.....but KenPom/John Hollinger/New baseball stats just overdo it in my opinion. They dig so deep that it gets cloudy whether what they measure means anything at all.

There will never be a substitute for watching a whole lot of basketball and forming an opinion based on what you see.

^You're both mostly right.

But Anthony deserves significantly more credit than criticism because he was:

1. Our player
2. A talented player
3. A good guy
4. Never critical of anyone publicly in a tough situation
5. About the least of our problems last year

Can't argue with that.
As far as the stats go, I'm just passing the long months till the season begins as best I can. Especially with the NFL in a coma.

Gurley just got selected in the second round of the NBDL draft by LA! Congrats to him!

Last I heard, he wanted to get paid, so he was planning on taking his game overseas. The D League is essentially a terrible deal with a 1 in 15 shot you'll get a 10 day contract in the NBA only to hit back to Po-dunk, Anywhere 10 days later to collect your grotesquely small salary. Meanwhile, guys n upwards of 15 or more European leagues can command mid six figure deals and live in world-class cities with great fan bases. If I'm correct that he's looking to go overseas, Anthony is certainly making the right decision. The kid has the skills to make a ton of money for the next decade or more if he stays healthy.
