Matty V mentioned this guy first in his article yesterday.

Quote:
Among the players the Minutemen are reportedly looking at is Orlando Sanchez, a 6-foot-9 big man from Nagua, Dominican Republic, who will begin his second season at Monroe Community College in the Bronx.

Sanchez, who averaged 8.6 points, 11.8 rebounds and 4.2 blocked shots per game as a freshman, helped lead Monroe to the Junior College Final Four and was named to the event's all-tournament team.

DoctorJ also dug up some stuff on him. Below is quoted from another thread:

Quote:
Cant find much on Orlando Sanchez

"Mullen's JC Top 100 Commitment List" has him as 6'8" and at 205, Rivals at 6'9" and 200. Also saw that he has one game of prior experience with the Puerto Rican National Team from 2010. Sounds kind of skinny, no??

The comment that he will be playing for Cal on the National team is interesting. Of course, Cal keeps losing players to the NBA so maybe he is more likely to take a JUCO transfer. I have no idea of the talent level other than from the article.

UMass is expected to be in the mix for Orlando Sanchez, a junior college big man, who spent his summer playing for the Dominican National Team in the Tournament of the Americas.

I watched some of the Bronze Medal game late last night. They won and played a pretty solid game. Didn't notice Sanchez.

RT @AdamZagoria: 2012 JUCO forward Orlando Sanchez narrowed his list to UMass, Providence, LSU, Kentucky, Rhode Island, FIU & Baylor.

Here's the blog post, not quite an article.

He has offers from the schools above- except Kentucky.

If he joined the Minuteman, he would be projected as the starter right away. I'm glad he's waiting till the spring. It gives us a chance to impress him with a good team and a style that fits his. And if we don't have a good season, who cares who we recruit?

What does that mean? If we have a lousy season, it's all the more reason to bring in an impact recruit. Question

It means, if we have a lousy season then it's proof that DK can't coach and it doesn't matter who he recruits. We're not gonna win. That is not what I am expecting, however.

If he has a lousy season, the coach who replaces him will need good recruits coming in.

It looks like we are out. Perhaps we were never really in on Sanchez. From the schools that are recruiting him, he may have been able to help.

Sanchez to St. John's. Has any school had more player turnover during the past 2 years?
