Agreed. I don't like our current uniforms at all. _________________ 'Fight On' You Loyal Sons and Daughters of Metawampe. |

| Agreed the present unis could be improved. The black piping (or whatever you call it) looked terrible. I wonder if the decision will be made to run with player names on the back of the jersey?... |

I am far from an artist, but I think it would be cool to just have either: 1) just the "UM" as Matty mentioned; or (more far-fetched for a variety of reasons) 2) maroon muskets running along either side of the helmet, similar to the FSU spear, Air Force lightning, etc. _________________ "Wherever I go, I’ll never be bashful about being from UMass, baby.” -Victor Cruz |

I like the helmets they have now. I could do without the black stripes on the home uniform though. _________________ UMass Football: 22-3 at home when I was a student. |

I have never disliked our uniforms but have long thought that we should do away with the UMass on the helmet because it looks too small on TV and in person and too "uncreative" for lack of a better actual word. The script UMass of the previous logo worked because the script U stood out more. Now it just looks like we didn't want to put any thought into it so we just slapped our school's name on the side of the helmet.
I think that the "UM" that we use would look great on the white helmet with the red stripe down the middle of it like the old helmets had - thats what I wanted to go with when we switched logos. I also think just the head of the current Sam the Minuteman logo would look good on the white helmet. I also think a maroon state of Massachusetts with the "UM" or block "M" in the middle of it might look good if done right, but may also be too cluttered.
I like the white helmet but think it looks too plain ever since we did away with the maroon facemask and the stripes down the middle - I liked that better. I wouldn't be opposed to a maroon helmet either though. If we went with a maroon helmet, I'd much rather see a letter or letters on the side of it outlined in white though. If we went with some variation of Sam, I'd rather keep it white.
And Crooks...remember the whole "distancing ourselves from 'white man with gun' moniker" is part of why we were re-branded in the first place, so no artillery on the helmets will be in our future |

I am all for new uniforms. Don't really care for the current ones and would like to see a more classic look and style.
here are the helmets historically: http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/6712/1164/1600/Helmets2.jpg
I like the 1988 helmet the best. That was a fun season w/Palazzi & Smellie and making the playoffs. I would upgrade the 1988 design and keep a White helmet with the maroon red stripe. I'd like to see some ideas for a maroon helmet - perhaps a new Minuteman Logo on a maroon helmet. The minuteman with his powder and musket is a great image to be quite proud of. |

Like that idea.
Kind of like the idea of making it more old-school Patriots looking. Put Sam on the helmet instead of Pat and go with like maroon pants and white shirts.
Like Kraft said, "Patriots and Minutemen belong together" - possibly not verbatim but it works for me. _________________ Refuse To Lose!!! |

Is there room for " Massachusetts " somewhere on the uni? It fit for hoops. _________________ All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass. |

I think it should say "UMASS Amherst" on the helmets. Any takers?

They tried that for a year. Guess it wasn't too popular?
The new uniforms and helmet designs should be fairly simple and closer to a classic look than a futuristic look (see below). I agree with comments about helmet logos - they should be photogenic and/or telegenic. The UM or the Minuteman Head are good starts. The outline of the state is another good idea since it seems like they are branding themselves as the Commonwealth's team.
I loved Matt's comment about Oregon. 13 games and 13 jerseys! Some look like they are from the movie Rollerball and others look like something from the Mad Max movies. |

| I like the pre-1962 helmets, no need for any logos, just white with the maroon stripe. |

That too is a great option. I'd prefer maroon with a white stripe, however. |

Agreed. I always think things look better as mainly maroon, for example, the newer track and field unis.
Also, I'm all for actually putting "MASSACHUSETTS" on the uniforms, I think the BBALL ones like that were always the best. |

Here are 6 samples on a maroon helmet, 3 of which have the white stripe:
