UConn is a horrible choice unless they decide to actually you know, fund their hockey program.

RPI makes sense, they have tradition they fund their program and they actually have a real rink.

UMass is 23-8-2 all time against UConn. Merrimack is 21-1 all time against them. UMass-Lowell is 17-5-1. Vermont is 15-1-1. Maine, Providence, UNH and Northeastern are a combined 15-0-1. BU and BC have never played them. That means UConn is all time 15-91-5 against Hockey East teams. Also of note, Alabama-Huntsville is 8-2 all time against UConn, and they're quitting altogether. If that doesn't tell you how much UConn sucks at hockey, go to their rink once. You will quickly be able to determine how little they care about the sport.

Looking on the bright side of this, UConn to Hockey East would be creating a perennial cellar dweller for UMass to finish ahead of every single year.

I think RPI is the best choice realistically right now. But depending on the level of commitment they could give I think Holy Cross would be better in the longrun. I think that if they could work something out to play at the DCU Center while they upgrade their own facilities it could work. I dont think there are many schools that have that kind of facility that close to campus thet can take advantage of.

Lets see, the DCU center already is a crappy place to watch a hockey game, now put what 2,000 fans there for a game. Yeah that will work. Rolling Eyes

The only reason Holy Cross didn't get into the ECAC and Qpac did instead was that Holy Cross was not willing to spend the money on a womens team. What makes you think they actually will put the investments needed to be in Hockey East if they can't even commit to ECAC?

RPI is the most logical fit, there is a reason they have been invited two times before.

I would bring Quinnipiac over. I am sure they'd love to be in Hockey East and they have a growing program.

The scuttlebutt out in Twitterland says Illinois is pondering DI hockey. Looks like the B1G Ten Hockey Conference may help grow college hockey.

RPI is most like Merrimack, a small school, but committed to hockey. Quinnipiac is smaller still - not as well recognized as a college.

UCONN - why would we help UCONN? Let them suck dry ice.

Actually Quinny is larger than RPI (far larger than Merrimack) and growing fast.

The stats:
Quinnipiac- 9K including 1,800 grad students
RPI- 7K including 2,000 grad students
Merrimack- 2K total (no grad students)

It's crazy how fast Quinny is growing. Back when my sister was there, 1993 or so when she started, it was still only Quinnipiac College and was a tiny little liberal arts school. I remember going to a basketball game, it was in their tiny high school like gym. They were DIII at the time.

There have been some rumblings that UConn might start giving some scholarships to hockey.

If they can figure out the title 9 issues around that more power to them. That being said in the last few years they did vote DOWN a proposal for Atlantic Hockey teams to be allowed to grant the full amount of scholarships.
