Charley Molnar to UMass
We have confirmed that Notre Dame offensive coordinator Charley Molnar will be named the next head coach at UMass.
Molnar has been with Brian Kelly since their time together at Central Michigan, where Molnar tutored quarterback Dan LeFevour as he became the second player in NCAA history to rush for at least 1,000 yards and throw for over 3,000 yards.
Molnar's past coaching stops certainly helped make him the most appealing to UMass as they transition from the FCS to a member of the MAC. Molnar's past coaching stops include Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, Kent State (all in the MAC), plus Central Michigan and Cincinnati.
The Minutemen are getting a proven offensive coach in Molnar and his background in the MAC will surely help the transition to FBS. |

I just saw a couple of Twitter posts suggesting the same.
Seeing that we just finished adding names to our search committee yesterday, please don't mind if we are not buying quite yet.
See coaching search thread.

This is from the article in the Springfield paper this morning.
"Thomas said McCutcheon is handling candidate interviews and keeping the committee abreast of the progress."
From that I would presume that he will recommend a candidate to the search committee once he has selected one. |

Damn, thats a nice contract. I thought the base was suspiciously low. The incentives are very reachable and hopefully keep him pretty happy. Here is an abbreviation for the tl;dr people.
_______________________________
$250K - Base
$25K - Instead of a Car
$25K - Speaking Fees like the UMass shows
_____
$300K in Practical Base, due to significant ease of completion
Bonuses:
$100K, Max; 10% of game guarantees (Can fluctuate with the scheduling, but he will pull $65K from this clause next season)
$20-35K, tied to ticket sales with a low end of 15K avg attendance and a high of 30K avg.
$20K, making it to a bowl game
$20K, winning a bowl game
$50K, Top 25 Ranking at end of season
$2.5K, If Academics surpass previous season
$5-10K, based on APR
_____
$537.5K, potential yearly income assuming highest levels of completion
Early Termination Clauses:
$300K Buyout from Molnar if he leaves in the first 3 seasons, $200K after that
Remaining Base Salary + Deferred Bonus Payments if UMass fires Molnar before the end of the contract. |
