I love Don Brown...he's a helluva guy and a helluva coach, and I dont blame him for leaving UMass because he was bailing at a time when all of the writing on the wall was pointing towards a lesser commitment to football moving forward. He, like most of us, surely didn't see this current transition coming back then - more like the opposite.

Our people were upset with him because he was looking to bail on a program and an athletic department that invested a lot of time and energy - not to mention their reputations - to hire him in the first place. I can see both sides of that.

That being said, I dont know whether he has an agent or not - I assume he must - but he or whoever handles these things for him has never been particularly smooth with any of his job transitions, and that is unfortunate because it reflects poorly on an otherwise stand-up guy.

Athlon discusses Brown as the possible new coach at Rutgers:

Quote:
Brown was reportedly one of the leading candidates to land at Yale this offseason but eventually pulled his name out of the running. He has a wealth of coaching experience in the Northeast, starting his career at Dartmouth in 1982 and making stops at Yale, Brown, Northeastern, UMass and Maryland. Brown has a 94-45 overall record in 12 years as a head coach and led UMass to the FCS title game in 2006
