Read this ...

Then this ...

Then watch this:

Kid has trouble making friends. Tries something "outside the box" to meet and make friends face to face instead of through Facebook. The administration rewards him by "asking" him to withdraw from school.

I can see why some people (especially women) might be freaked, but he was doing this in a public place, not in the tunnels under Herter Hall. And he wasn't forcing anyone to take part -- if it freaks you out, don't go.

Administration could have gently told him this could upset some people who might think he's a rapist or ax murderer -- they could have even suggested he chat with someone at Health Services or the Newman Center for some help -- but force him to withdraw???? Sorry, that's bullshit.

Agree. And big time overreaction by the student body. I commented on that Collegian article that he's right about the social environment here. Most students go home on weekends and the rest go out and take pictures with alcohol for Facebook. If you don't do either one, you're screwed.

Hell everyone here wears the same clothes (Black North Face, tights/jeans, and a Sox hat).

Crazy if he was asked to leave....and if he's at all litigious, UMass hasn't heard the last from him.

It's a bit of an odd approach, but who cares? The University's involvement should have been just to make sure the kid is okay, and make sure he wasn't targeted by any buttholes on campus that would want to harass him in any way. Can't imagine he was asked to leave, unless there is more to the story we don't know about, like there usually is.

I think the title of this threat is a class overreaction. We have no idea if the university asked the kid to leave. If it health related, I imagine HIPPA laws prevent any discussion of anything.

The kid clearly is a creative writer, why would you take his facebook posts as official wrongdoing by the university? Perhaps a doctor recommended an health evaluation away from the university? That would be "forcing" him to withdraw but the U could never legally discuss it.

Rant end.

The kid said that he was asked to leave. He MAY be lying, but I think this kid is smarter than that.
