Is Junior Day new at Umass or did previous coaches do something like this in the past?

I don't think that if it was done before it was publicized like now. With the upgrade to 1A, new conference, new coach and the social media networks every move the coach makes will be publicized. Nice to know the quality of players he is looking at.

Josh Morris (RB), the Gatorade Player of the Year from Rhody, has indicated that UMass has shown him some interest.

Quote:
“I think BC, UMass, Temple or UConn might be the next to offer,” Morris said. “Right now I'm focused on those schools, then maybe I can get some offers from bigger schools. I've also heard from Penn State, NC State and Northwestern.”

Just heard via Twitter that UMass has offered Sheddrick Williams, a cornerback from Madison County, Fl. Kid has some Big East offers (USF and Louisville) and is drawing interest from the big boys in the Sunshine State (FSU and UF).

Here is his Rivals page: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Sheddrick-Williams-134124

Via some other stuff out there is sounds like he just visited Gainesville and liked it - so I think we know what that means.

I'm new to the forum. My brother Andrew Barton was up at UMASS for their Junior day last weekend and came away very impressed with the direction of the program and the school overall. Full disclosure, I am a lifelong Rutgers fan but a native New Englander. I was attracted to this site because it seems to be the most active of the UMASS fan-sites from what I can tell. I will keep you posted on my brothers recruitment so far it has not materialized into any offers but hopefully it will at some point. He played out of position for most of his HS career and I believe UMASS is looking at him at OLB. His HS (Ridgefield HS in Ridgefield CT) plays in the Class LL which is the largest class in CT. They recently had a national recruit who went to Univ of Florida who Andrew played along side so he has played against some good competition.

Well, that's about all I wanted to say. Hope that I can provide some updates in the future and look forward to learning more about the UMASS football program.

Nick

itsrtime: thanks for the information, I saw some stuff about your brother on twitter, and I'm happy to hear that he enjoyed his visit. Any idea as to what "Junior Day" consisted of? Did he get a chance to watch the lacrosse/basketball game, etc.?

Thanks again.

From what he said when I talked to him, it was pretty much an information session about the university and the football program. He did not stay for the game unfortunately. Some of the recruits did I believe, maybe the offerees? They did a presentation, then they had break out sessions with their primary recruiters based on geography. He was grouped with the NY/NJ and Fairfield County CT group. His recruiter is coach Sollazzo and he also spoke briefly with coach Elmassian. Both were very impressive from what he said. His trip ended with a campus tour. All together maybe a 4-5hr visit. He said coach Sollazzo will be visiting his HS at some point in the future but he did not say when.

Thanks - glad to hear that Sollazzo is doing a good job down there.

The Turk is taking care of business. He's also recruiting D-Line prospect Luca Brasi, 6'5" 325 out of the Bronx.

Chris Nee from Rivals.com tweeted that we offered to Matt Burke, a 6'6, 210 TE from Florida.

Here's his Scout page:

^ Nice job Crooks . . . for Coach Molnar who said he wouldn't be
recruiting as miuch in Florida, we have 9 of the 21 recruit targets on Rivals
in 2013 from Florida! He must of changed his mind with the 2 coaches
here with Florida ties( Kruzek and Suber).

^^
What happened to the speech about Florida kids getting cold here in November with short-sleeved shirts. Time to start conditioning drills in a walk-in freezer!
