We win tiebreakers with Xavier and St. Bonnie, and at this time we own the tiebreaker vs. St. Joe's by virtue of beating SLU. (St. Joe's can turn the tables by beating Temple, but then again so can we.) LaSalle is the obvious problem. We need them to lose a couple, at least.

Just back from my nephew's first birthday party. Seems a great display by the program. How was the attendance? What did Mr. Cruz say at the half? What was the crowd reaction? Thanks.

The attendance was 6,632 and the crowd was pretty big. Victor Cruz coming definitely brought a lot of fans with "Cruuuuz" chants and he got a big encore, best halftime show in a long time as well with a salsa dancing contest and a speech about him loving UMass. Actually I saw people leave the game after halftime because they basically came for him haha. But the student section was amazing tonight, real loud, and I believe we were a big part of shutting down Tu Holloway, a lot of personal chants for him hahaha

What's the tiebreaker when the head to head is 1-1?

^Really got to give it up to the students the last few games, they said they'd come if we had a winner and they have been showing up in force...not like the old days or even the uconn game but it's still been great. You can tell the players really appreciate the big crowds, both students and the public.

Huge huge win. My biggest fear was a late season skid killing the momentum of this season, which was a possibiliy considering the remaining schedule and concerns over being a bit gassed.

So proud of Fred, never thought I'd see him be the defensive stopper assigned the other team's best player.

Chaz's best game imo, good to see him shoot so well in addition to his usual nice run of assits. We've been spoiled a bit this year, Chaz makes a couple of spectacular assists every game that are now kinda expected. That pass at Richmond was probably my favorite play of the year.

Kind of a random thought, but I recently invested in some surround sound and I've got a good laugh a few times out of Put's antics. There is no question he's been playing with more swagger and I hear him constantly in my rear speakers. Against La Salle, I believe it was his first 3, the ball had just left his hand and you hear him say very clearly "there it is." The ball went in and the crowd erupted. If he were a opposing player, I probably wouldn't find it as entertaining.

As everyone pointed out great all around game! Riley's d was beyond amazing.. And when Chaz plays under control we are a different team. It literally comes down to if Chaz is under control or not. Its amazing what he can do out there when not wildly diving to the lane! Great win and can't wait to enjoy senir night and celebrate the wonderful year that Sean has given us!

Chaz was excellent last night, perhaps his best game at Umass. Very controlled, smaht decisions, and hit his shots. Really played huge last night.
Freddie & Put played a hell of a game as well. TV & Sean were also very solid, and Jesse played his arse off on D. X is tough, they have some great talent, but we wanted this more. Thought maxie played well in the first half, not sure why he didn't see much time in the second half . Kid has really started to come on

Best game in the Mullins in quite a while. Good crowd, good energy, good student section

Baby Berk burger to start this game off. Pretty good, just like LS said!

The whole bench better be amped for this one. Everybody. I want to see bodies flying, diving, slamming at both ends. I want to see us out rebound and generally out hustle X for the entire game. I want to see the 50-50 balls go 90-10 our way. I expect nothing less than an epic game. I expect to be hoarse tomorrow morning.

Rock the Bill.

Mission accomplished. My favorite game of the season.

This was Chaz's best game in a UMass uniform. He played within his game from start to finish. Those 3pt shots he took, he was wide open. They really took the air out of X's runs. But Freddie was my favorite tonight. He frustrated the heck out of Halloway. Later in the game X started setting double screens, and Freddie just kept fighting through them and still got a hand in his face. I am very happy for him.

What a great showing by the students. You *did* get in Halloway's head. X missed some FT's down the stretch when they were shooting at your end, too. Best of all, I did not see one student leave early. Way to support your team. Keep it up. Be ready to harass URI.

That was fun.

I've got some gripes with the volume level of the crowd over the course, but this isn't the time or the place. That was an amazing win we were in control from the 10 minute mark in the 1st half until the final buzzer.

I'm very happy we didn't start over this year.

Huge win tonight in terms of getting a 1st round bye in the A10 tourny too. Of the teams competing for the last 2 spots (I'm giving Temple and St. Louis the top 2 spots), the other 4 teams (Xavier, St. Joe's, La Salle and St. Bonnie) has easier games left than us (2 tough road games at Dayton and Temple, and a home game against a bad URI team who already beat us though).

Dayton and Duquesne are also competing for the last two spots, they're only a game behind us in the loss column. My ideal scenario: Dayton beats Duq and we beat Dayton.

The tie breaker whe it's head to head is record against the first place team. If that's equal, then the second place team, etc.
We're gonna end up tied with some other teams for sure, so the tie breakers will come into play. If the tournament were played right now, we'd be in third place with a bye because we'd be in a little pool with X and St J, and our record against them is 2-1. X is 1-1 and St J is 1-2. That's how it works.

UMass 80, Xavier 73: XU got a big win Saturday, topping rival Dayton in overtime, a game that gave it a much better chance of avoiding bubble trouble in the final weeks of the season. Now? Losing to UMass is hardly a crime -- that's a solid Minutemen team, one that's not completely out of the bubble picture -- but the last thing Xavier needs now is blasé losses to decent-but-not-great A-10 foes. Fortunately for Chris Mack's team, that win at Vanderbilt is still on the ledger. Plus, the computer numbers are still OK. But the Musketeers have shown plenty of collapse potential pretty much all season, and they may have to get a really difficult win at Saint Louis next week to feel safe about their chances.

Big ifs BUT if Dayton beats Duquesne and Temple beats LaSalle tonight and we then beat Dayton on Saturday, we are almost definitely assured of a top 4 seed (provided we beat URI in finale, a team that has essentially given up on their season).

Not looking ahead too much, but if we get LaSalle a third time in AC, I love our chances. I hate how we match-up against them but beating a team three times in a season in college basketball is damn near impossible and I'd think that would remain true here. I also think we beat Duquesne on a neutral floor, though I concede that they too pose match-up problems. I don't especially want to see SLU again; I think they're a tough out and that beating them a second time would be pretty unlikely. To be honest, I think we match-up well with Xavier and wouldn't mind seeing them again. I think we're essentially even with St. Joes but they've been playing good ball of late so they're not an ideal team to face late in the year. I think we match-up with Bonnie and though we haven't played them yet, I think we match-up well with Dayton and in general have fared really well against them in recent years (save for last year's conference tourney game, but it might be nice to get payback for that one). Bottom line is, the only team in this league that I would see as a fairly prohibitive favorite in a neutral site game is Temple and to a lesser extent, SLU. Everyone else is more than beatable, if not weaker than us and it's just going to be a matter of how we finish the season out momentum-wise (ie confidence level entering AC) combined with how consistent we can play over three days. I think we have a decent shot at at least making things really interesting in AC. And though it's not worth groping about at this point, I truly believe that if we had Samp and Cady right now, a lot of people would be calling us a dark horse favorite to win the whole thing because of how advantageous it is to have that sort of depth in a conference tourney setting.
