| That's awesome. Obviously he's one of the two transfers mentioned a few weeks ago who can potentially help out right away. Looking forward to finding out who the other one is. |

| Looks like he didnt play much. He does have good size though, and ran a 4.47 forty. He has a mich highlight video on YouTube. It's not very long, but he's fast and made some really nice up field cuts. |

With a Michigan degree already in his pocket, it's a no brainer for Cox to drop down a notch, compete for playing time against fewer BCS-level teammates, and put some work in towards a graduate degree. All around, a good move for the kid from DOT. |

| He didn't get much PT at Michigan, but it sounds like he played pretty well when he did, and this past year he supposedly stood out at Michigan's spring game. If he's not good enough to start for us, it probably means we have some good talent already here at running back. |

Wow. He played in their Spring game? Hmmm. Interesting.
Either way, sounds like we have some "playbook" insight to help prepare for the 3rd game of the season. Interesting. Very interesting.. |

| Seems like a smart kid. I noticed he mentioned he originally signed to play for Lloyd Carr. The new coach then brought in a new system. Hopefully, he'll do well within Molnar's offense. |

Very interesting.. | Yup, Cox played in the 2011 spring game when Brady Hoke emphasized RBs (in contrast to Rick Rodriguez' spread O). No big surprise, most players in the 3 to even 5 deep will get some spring game playing time.
Not to sell Mike Cox short, but he never really did much at RB for Michigan. Most of his minimal running yards were in mop-up duty for one game against Delaware State. He was really little more than a ST player, and even then for only about half of the Wolverines' 2011 games. Regardless, he's another player recruited for BCS-ball that could contribute for UMass. No harm, no foul, and possibly some good upside potential.
Past stats: CAREER HIGHS

Rushing
Attempts: 11, vs. Delaware State (Oct. 17, 2009)
Yards: 82, vs. Delaware State (Oct. 17, 2009)
Touchdowns: 2, vs. Delaware State (Oct. 17, 2009)
Long: 57, vs. Delaware State (Oct. 17, 2009)
At Michigan ... three-year letterman ... appeared in 12 contests ... recorded 19 rushes for 169 yards and two touchdowns.
Senior/Junior (2011) ... earned third varsity letter ... appeared in six games; played six on special teams ... VIRGINIA TECH (Jan. 3) ... returned two short kickoffs ... PURDUE (Oct. 29) ... made season debut on special teams. |

This is just such a great story, if he hadn't come to UMass to do his grad studies and play he probably would be interviewing for jobs like every other student right now. The fact that he is a Mass kid makes it even better.
The hockey info is interesting, he must be one hell of an athlete beyond what we saw on the field.
Congratulations Mike and best of luck with the Giants (UMass Alumni Assoc) my new favorite NFL team. |
