I heard Freddie was he first guy on the court today prior to the game getting up extra shots. He had a great all around game today. I am proud of him.

Agree with all points about Freddie last night. best game I've seen him play. He was awesome defensively and really was into this game. I agree, when he takes his man into the lane for that short pullup jumper, with his athleticism, it is another weapon that he can use whn we need him to score.

Great team win

That was Freddie's "F-U to this thread" game. I'd like to see more of those! Very Happy

Definitely one of his best games in a UMass uniform. Sure he has scored more points but the way he scored last night was the big thing. Scored 12, and 1-6 from three but all of the shots he took made sense. A few just didnt want to roll his way. But, I love him on that penetration jumper from 12 feet out. And he also moved the ball really well. He may have only had 1 assist but there were a few plays where he was definitely responsible for some buckets. And the defense on Tu was outstanding. Tu looked bothered. Lastly, 1 foul, 0 Turnovers in 22 Minutes.

Only criticism I have has been a long running one. If he could dribble the way JDF can, he would be so good on those cuts. He is athletic and driving into traffic could lead to a lot of open shot opportunities for him and his teammates.

I sent congratulatory tweets to Freddie, Sean C and Chaz last night. Outstanding game by all of the guys. One thing that irks me though is that our jump shooters have been doing some nice up fakes but when they get the defender in the air they dribble AROUND the guy. When you get the defender up in the air just go for the shot and create contact and you are at the line EVERY TIME.

Freddie the Fox will rain 3's down upon the Flyers and Owls and we will get to the Promised Land of the NCAA Tournament this year!!! BELIEVE!

Subtle but very important development at the free throw line for Freddie last night, too. Anybody ever notice how Freddie and Rondo both looked at the ground and then went right into their shot without targeting the rim first. Their results were all over the place. And Freddie is a good shooter so it seemed strange. Freddie changed that last night. He targeted the hoop for several seconds and looked incredibly more fluid, confident, and got good results. He's definitely working on this part of his game. There was an article in the Globe about this free throw coach who stressed this particular technique a month or so ago.

http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball/celtics/articles/2012/01/15/free_throw_expert_says_he_can_help_celtics_rajon_rondo/

Hopefully new found confidence at the line will encourage Freddie to keep taking it to the hoop. You're a dynamic player when you go to the hoop, Freddie!

For what it's worth...

Freddie on Twitter late last night:
Quote:
And my back is really hurting, I don't understand why...I don't even play anymore.

Bottom line: he's right. He has fallen to the bottom of our 8-man rotation.

Over the last 6 games, he is averaging under 10 minutes per game, and that's including the 2OT game at MSU, when he only played 9. He's averaging 1 made FG per game, 3.3 shots, and 2.3 points.

Looks like the coaching staff has the clamps down on him and the propensity to take some quick, ill-advised shots. Or maybe that's also credit due Freddie, because I don't remember many of those lately.

Still, I hope he can keep his head in the game. He's still a role player that we need.

Cool Freddie is at the bottom of the rotation because he is honestly the 8th best player of the eight. While he is still a good player and we need him he doesnt have the overall game the other seven do.Basketball is passing, defense, decisons, rebounding, dribbling, court sense, creating ones shot, shooting etc.Freddie is needed but who gets more playing time is determined by ones skills.Hopefully he sticks with the program, works on his game, shot selection, free throws and all.Freddie is cool. But we have others who are growing and are better.Says a lot about bthe talent on our squad.

Freddie plays at the only logjammed position we have. Morgan gets most of the time at the two. Put plays the 3. And DK is so enamored with Javorn that he picks up the extra minutes at both. Freddie, however, is not the 8th best player of our 8. Freddie is one of the more athletic guys on the team. If he could do the same sort of dribbling penetration stuff that Javorn can do, he would be devastating. He is already a VERY good defender when you tell him to go shut one guy down. And his shot selection has improved from game 1 to now. People who hate on him are just recycling old criticisms of him without actually watching him play. Maybe people don't remember what he did to Tu Holloway during the X game.

Freddie has been playing some jailhouse defense the last few games. He was getting to the iron in the Miss St game and he needs to keep that up. The defense is looking for him to launch the trey so he can get a step and get to the goal. I predict he is going to have to step in against the Dragons if we get in foul trouble and he is going to hit a BIG shot. I feel the same way about Freddie that Tommy Heihnson felt about Walter McCarty.

Smile This wasnt a knock on Freddie. Lets be realistic though. If Feddie isnt eighth man who is? Wouldnt you rather have Maxie or Javorn on the team or Freddie? Or Put or Jesse? All these guys can do more things than Freddie. Dk knows that, thus the others get more minutes.Look at each's statistics.Freddie is a part of the team. But he still has to be in my opinion eighth man.

I'd rather have Freddie than Javorn. Javorn can do some great things, but he gets caught up in the speed of the game and more often than not makes a dumb turnover or costs us a possession. He has been on fire since he sat out at Temple, yes. But, looking at his overall body of work it happens more often than not.

That is the only reasonable comparison. Saying Freddie vs. Put or Freddie vs. Maxie is ludicrous. Anyone saying we need a third 2 vs. our only backup PF/C or the position mismatch presented by Put would be utterly wrong. But, that doesnt mean Freddie is relegated to 8th on the bench. Maxie has had games where he gets 3 minutes max. He gets minutes depending on Sean and TV's foul status and whether or not they are tired. Freddie doesn't get that sort of consideration.

Without looking at minutes breakdowns; I felt Freddie played more on Saturday than he had recently.

Maybe I just noticed him quite a bit because of that stellar defense he put on some of the Pirates.

Yes,he really looks like he is doing well on defense. Gotta see that. Hustling, intent. This is a good UMass team.Next year we get back Sampson, Cady and two good freshmen. How does DK everyone minutes? Team should be in NCAA.This may be start of a new era since DK can recruit.Cant wait, should be exciting! Razz

Does anyone have a problem with a tweet like that? All you hear is DK talking about a brotherhood and that tweet to me sounds like anything but. I will say I am glad he didn't take it any farther then he did. Maybe I'm reading between the lines here, but he does not like much of a team guy here. Also if you watch him on the court, especially on the offensive end he doesn't even really move much at all.

Do you really think he feels like he should be playing over some of the other guys? Basically we are talking about Freddie vs. Javorn and Esho. Those are the first two off the bench so that is why I say that. Yes he plays good D, but so does Javorn. Ontop of that, with the way Javorn has been playing on Offense you just have no reason to put in Freddie over him. He has really been active on both ends of the floor and really sparked us in a few games.

Also with the emergence of Esho, and his work on the glass and offensive end, that would take away minutes as well. So clearly he is 8th on the list and there really is no reason for him to get more then the 8 or som minutes he gets. You can utilize Freddie to get guys rest and play some D and hope while in there he takes good shots and maybe hits a few threes. I see his limited time on this team exactly where it should be. Hopefully he is a realistic kid and he can recognize why he isn't playing vs. the others.

I just hope he does not become the guy who takes this chemistry and ruins it. I don't have any reason to think he will, or that DK would allow it, but I just don't want to ruin a good thing.
