At the luncheon today they had a get well card for us to sign for coach Sortino. She is in the hospital with walking pneumonia. She has had a lingering cold for several weeks now. She did not make the recent trip to Florida.

How is Elaine doing? Is she back in the third base box?

Edit: Thanks to Rocks for providing the answer elsewhere:

"She was at the game but all bundled up. Didn't leave the dugout. Assistants did all the trips to the ump for lineup changes."

This is a lot more serious than a lingering cold. Keep her in your thoughts.

Coach Cal with a pair of really nice tweets about Elaine this morning.

#BBN, let’s send our thoughts and prayers to Elaine Sortino, the longtime softball coach at UMass, who is battling cancer.

Elaine was coaching when I was there. She’s a great coach, administrator, & more importantly, a great friend. I’m thinking about you, Elaine

THIS HAS GOT TO BE A HUGE ERROR ON THE PART OF THE SPRINGFIELD PAPER.

In this mornings paper under the section called TRANSACTIONS it lists UMASS - Promoted assistant softball coach Molica Goldman to head coach.

Then in another part of the sports there is an article about Molica being promoted to interim softball coach at Amherst College. Here is the link to that story.

How can the paper make a big mistake like that?

Maybe because they just cut and paste from the AP wire without reading or editing.

That is how the transaction moved on the AP wire ... with UMass instead of Amherst, and missing her first name.

The importance of a quality copy editor can not be understated in this case. Mistakes like this make reputable papers look like junior high school publications.
