He's not a replacement for TV. It says above he's leaving Mich because he doesn't like playing the PF position. So he wants to play the 3. But can he defend that position? And how would it go sharing PT with Put when he's a jr and Put is a senior?

I hear you Len, I guess what I was saying is Evan would fill in nicely once we lose TV. In my mind TV is not the prototypical 4, neither is Sampson. One could argue they play more like a SF (especially prior to this year). As someone mentioned earlier, all of our guys with the exception of Sean handle the ball and do a variety of things. I can't say I saw how Evan was used at Michigan or know what kind of role he's looking for, but DK's style would seem attractive to a bigger player wanting to showcase his overall game.

Tvs best skill is his versatility on offense. He can absolutely abuse guys in the low post if they are of similar size and not big leapers. And he can make jumpers. This kid seems to be a great shooter with size, period.

I attended U of Michigan for graduate school after college at UMass, and followed their basketball program casually (always second to UMass). He is a pretty solid shooter, big body, surprisingly didn't spend as much time banging down low as you would expect for a guy his size. Of course, to be able to play in the Big 10 you have to have a good deal of talent.

He did lose the dribble on Michigan's final possession in their upset loss to Ohio in the first round of the tournament. But he can definitely shoot it. Reliably.

Spot-on Ebach. The kid is leaving Mich, it seems, because he wants to play the 3 and isn't capable of banging down low at that level. If we're to get him, it'll be because we're willing to give him the bulk of his minutes at the 3. He wouldn't be coming here to do the dirty work in the paint each night. Not saying he wouldn't be a good pick-up. Just noting what we should expect from him.

From the little I've seen I agree. He seems to be a "soft" big. Good size, but doesn't like to go down low. I would say Put is a better player, but if he wants to come here we would use him.

This kid was very highly rated out of HS - top 100. ESPN had him as a 94.

Also, he played with Laguerre in HS, both on the AAU circuit and for one year at New Hampton.

From NERR:
Quote:

At New Hampton Laguerre will be playing next to his Mass Rivals’ teammate Evan Smotrycz, who is already committed to Michigan.

“That will be fun,” Laguerre said. “He’s a good friend of mine.”

Laguerre will be repeating his junior year at New Hampton and joining the class of 2011.

ESPN had him as the 20th best PF in the class of 2010. Maxie was #42. Cady was #44, (Cothron was #13).

Lots of reasons to think this would be a real good player for us. Even if he isn't a super athlete or a banger, get the best players you can and adapt your system to suit. TV isn't exactly a bruiser or one of our fastbreak kind of guys either but he's versatile as mentioned above, which is what this kid looks like too. Inside out tweener who is more outside than in compared to TV.

Love to see more highlights if anyone has some.

Okay, I can admit when I'm wrong, maybe I jumped the gun a bit saying he was the perfect replacement (I'll admit I've never seen him play). Kind of assumed a big time big 10 PF recruit who's 6-9 230 would be able to play some inside as well as shoot. If you told me we were getting a 7 foot center from WVU I might assume the same thing, nothing against Bonner, he just wasn't a true center. Still think it would be a good fit though.

Maybe you can help us out. You've obviously read them, so posting a quick summary would help us determine what's worth reading and what's not.

For example, maybe something like this...

IndyStar says we're not on Evan's list.
