Our SOS is better than UVA and just 5 spots behind JHU. that will change by the end of the year I'm sure, but still. Better than precious Denver as well.
Maybe our SOS would be better if teams would come to Garber once in a while instead of ducking us or offering only road games.
I despise the politics of NCAA Lacrosse. _________________ it's easy to root for a winner... |

Does anyone know why we don't play Cornell. I know there was a time when we played them on a regular basis. It seems that a home and home would work. Harvard and Brown seem to be able to schedule us. Also how about Yale? I know the coach has UMASS connections as well. Any info would be appreciated.
If the CAA teams had lived up to expectations, the SOS would not be an issue.

| Seeing as how Delaware screwed the pooch this year and has shit the bed, we're going to be counting on Hofstra and what they do between now and the end of the year. That game in Foxpig against them has the potential to be HUGE if Hofstra is in a good place. |

| Speaking of the game at Gillette, does anyone know what the tailgating situation would be? I'm assuming similar to a football game there? As sad as it sounds, the lure of tailgating must be used for me to get my friends to go see the #2 team in the country, thus why I'm asking the question. The other point is that since we're the 2nd game of the double-header, does that mean they will force us in from the parking lot to watch Merrimack/Bentley? I'm guessing yes, but I'm REALLY hoping no. Don't think I've seen anything official, but maybe some of you have an idea from past experience, etc. |

I would think that it will stay in the 20's the rest of the year, although the St. Joe's game will definitely cause it to be lower, as St. Joe's is ranked 54th out of 61 teams in the Laxpower computer rankings. |
Hot damn...you're right. I'm going to show this to him and maybe we'll be #1 next week _________________ Fight Mass: Give Me a Cruel New England Winter |

| I can see what's coming from 100 miles away.....SU keeps losing, we keep winning.....we're getting SU in the first round at Garber. I'd bet my house on it. The committee will all be jerking off thinking about it for the next few weeks. Ugh. |

| Spirited debate on ESPNU in final minutes of the Hopkins loss over who should be the new #1 (mentioned Virginia, Loyola, and us). While I'm not suggesting he would say we deserve the #1 ranking, Quint Kessenich was actually very surprisingly speaking somewhat positive about us and defending us a bit. Whereas, Eamon McAnaney and Paul Carcaterra (former Syracuse player) did not want to hear it and kept slamming our schedule. Carcaterra actually said that "UMass does not belong in the discussion for #1" to which Quint responded by rattling off some of our wins. Come end of season all this ranking stuff means nothing, but polls will be interesting tomorrow. We'll definitely still be behind Virgina in IL/Media Poll, but the Coaches Poll will be very very interesting. If we take that top spot, the "establishment" is going to be up in arms and its going to be pretty great to watch... |

The lax mafia will poop if we get voted #1. It's not even a question. We're pushing it being at #2. While I do see the mafia relaxing things a bit over the past few years (Denver, ND etc.) I don't think there is ANY way that we'll get a favorable seed going in to tourney. It's almost like they wanted to see what Denver and ND could do getting a good seed but they know UMass is a thorn in their sides and they will want to keep us down. If we finish the season in the top 5, I would almost guarantee we'll get a home game against SU just so they can see if they can knock us out. Sorry if this sounds bitter but I've been following lax for too many years to know that we're gonna get a pass for being undefeated on the season with a WEAK schedule.
BTW I'm actually SHOCKED that Q is sticking up for us as much as he has been. He's a Hop dude through and through and to see him sticking up for us is a HUGE bonus, |

^Agree with you Kosty - where we are currently all has a lot of people very unhappy. Seeding is going to be interesting and no doubt if we get a home game, it will be a top notch program coming into Garber in an attempt to "get rid of us". It wouldn't be the first time the Committee has tried to screw us.
If I recall, last time we had a first round home game was 2005 and who did they send up to us - Syracuse of course. And while that turned out good and we beat those bastards for the 2nd time that year, that earned us a trip to Homewood Field in the quarters to play Hopkins and that was pretty ugly. Earned a home game - but just given a brutal draw. Fair to say that will likely happen again....
We are a threat - always have been and they don't like that - thats why no one will play us. |

So if the #1 team lost, the #2 team (assuming they won) would become the #1 team.
If not, the ranking system is bullshit. _________________ Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades |

^in theory yes - and in the coaches poll where we are #2, we may very well be #1, but at the same time the ranking system is kinda bullshit and can be rendered fairly meaningless should the Committee decide so come selection time.
Will be interesting - in the meantime, we just have to keep winning, because if we lose, we are going to plummet in the polls. |

Which 'Cuse game was in the rainstorm? The playoff game or the regular season one? That was the game that ended with Zywicki's goal and flip in front of the 'cuse bench, no?
Us going to Homewood that year was utter crap. _________________ it's easy to root for a winner... |

Roommate thinks UMass could very well be #1 tomorrow - "and they deserve it, for now."
They'll at least have one #1 vote in the media poll. When was the last time any UMass team was even receiving votes for #1 in anything? It's pretty cool just to think about. _________________ Fight Mass: Give Me a Cruel New England Winter |
