|From Sunday Globe - unclear if you can see it via boston.com
I agree with this article, but it is important for seniors to be prepared and ready. Most of my UNH students have jobs 6 weeks before graduation, split between NH and MA.
I met with a number of UMASS Economics seniors Friday in Boston at the UMASS Club - and more young alums at the Finance Alum networking event at night. Extremely well attended by both younger and more experienced alums.
Extremely impressed, again, with the caliber of students. Most had excellent interpersonal skills, one or two internships, and importantly, many had taken a semester abroad, mostly in Spain or England. One came to UMASS from Ok.!!!
I do not pretend to meet every student type at UMASS, I see mostly the focused and driven ones, but our best lines up well with any graduating senior I meet, including from WPI.
The job market has been hardest on Classes of 09 and 10, and many have lost oomph to apply for positions now, feeling the market is still poor. I hope that they take heart in the above article, and re-engage.
