From what I understand there are quite a few.

Beat GW two games today 8-0 and 2-0. No writeup available as yet.

Pretty unheard of for a freshman to do the things that Diaz-Patterson has been doing for the UMies. And, she's a local kid to boot!!

Sara Plourde is having one of the greatest years (and careers) that any UMass player has ever had. As a pitcher, she's 10th all time in career strikeouts. That's especially unbelievable considered how few games UMass plays as compared to every player who is in front of her. And she was behind Brandice as a freshman. In strikeouts per 7 innings, she's third all time in Division 1.

She has had a few scattered at bats over the years and did not have an at-bat until the 20th game this season. She now has 8 home runs in the last 14 games and is slugging .976. If she keeps up that pace (and gets the required number of at-bats), she finishes with the highest home runs per game in the history of Division 1. If she maintains her slugging %, she would finish with the 19th best percentage in history.

Also, she has hit home runs in 5 consecutive games. There are only 2 players in history who have hit homers in 6 consecutive games. If she hits one in the next game, She's tied for first.

She's tearing up the record book.

(As an aside, I met her once when she was a freshman at the Fan fest. She was the player that spent the most time with my daughter and her friends and seemed like a great kid. She has been the kids' favorite player since.)

http://www.gazettenet.com/2012/05/01/umass-tabbed-no-1

"Diaz-Patterson is batting .378 on the season. In 15 conference games she is hitting .511 with nine extra-base hits, an .872 slugging percentage, 23 RBIs and a perfect fielding percentage."

Like I said before, she's a freshman and the sky is the limit on this kid.

I watched the last two innings as the game was on before lax on our video. I have seen Sara pitch several times, including once earlier this season, and she seems to have added a few MPH. Yikes.

"I thought she pitched brilliantly," UMass coach Elaine Sortino said. "She located the ball where it needed to go, and I thought it was one of her finest performances of the year."

So does that mean she's back coaching again? Great news if she is.

Elaine is still staying in the dugout. The assistants are on the bases.
