Two things.

1) I haven't been impressed with BC transfers in the past. I had high hopes for Warren Wilson, a wide receiver. He was burried so low on the depth chart that Octavious Hawkins, then the backup QB, saw snaps at WR over Wilson. Then Wilson changed to a cornerback and was unmemorable. I'm not getting my hopes up for him. Granted this guy is apparently good, BUT

2) Coach Molnar appears to be trying to cultivate more than just a winning football team, but also a team of student athletes we can be proud of (Treat Women with Respect, etc). Do we really want someone who got kicked off a team at another school in spite of his talent because of behavioral issues?

His "behavioral issues" may have thinking, and saying his coach was a dim-wit..and wanting to escape with remaining, and instant eligibility.

I've not read of anything that alludes to anything "bad", I think he just wanted out of that mess that is BC football.

By the way, their coach is a dim-wit!

And a flyer on this kid couldn't hurt..

^ Am I missing something here? The all-time leading rusher in BC history, who could have broken the all-time ACC rushing record this season is not really a guy we need? I'm not saying we would get him, but are people serious? Why would you not want an all-ACC running back on your team?? Assuming there aren't any real behavioral issues there, that is.

"The thing that BC has always prided itself on --- and what I have always taken pride in --- is that the athletic department, with precious few exceptions, treats its student athletes right and gives them a foundation for success once they leave the Heights.

And, really, it's impossible for me, and I imagine many others on here, to be a fan of an NCAA revenue sport without the confidence that the coaching staff and pertinent administrators are treating the kids on the team the right way. Any defensible NCAA football program must protect the health of its kids, give them the resources to succeed in school, and bestow upon them a title (i.e., letter winner, BC football) that will mean something no matter whether the graduate goes on to the NFL, a corporate role, or community work. Otherwise they are simply using young men, and then throwing them away when they've outlived their usefulness.

I'm sure there are a handful of exceptions here and there, but for the most part I have never doubted BC's commitment to its student-athletes. This gets to the heart of why I am so troubled by the treatment of Montel Harris.

I have no idea what happened. Certain explanations seem plausible, but, really, who knows? I do know one thing for sure though: Gene and Spaz have no credibility whatsoever, to the extent I believe it's plausible that they willingly disparaged the reputation of the school's all-time leading rusher to protect their own reputations.

If that's true, it's absolutely deplorable. It is beneath the University and everyone every associated with it. Boston College football players are a revenue stream for the university more generally, and for Frank Spaziani and Gene DeFilipo directly. Without them, both getlemen are nothing. And without Montel Harris in particular, Spaz likely does not have a job anymore as Montel spent Spaz's first two years mitigating the disaster of the Spaz Error. Let me repeat that: Spaz does not get his $5 million extension without the hard work of Montel Harris.

Now, Harris is being shown the door for some unspecified reason. He can't say anything about it because BC still needs to grant a release for him to transfer. Spaz very well may be taking power --- power he has derived in part because of Montel's own hard work and talent as a football player --- and using that power to disparage Montel, with the threat of limiting his options going forward in life. Note, for example, Montel's quote in the Globe that the school told him not to say anything.

Such actions should be unconscionable. But to many of the school's most loyal fans, those actions rate somewhere between "plausibly happened" and "likely happened." That is absolutely unacceptable. I know Globe and Herald writers read this board --- they're really the only folks with any prayer of bringing at least some of this to light.

The Kevin Rogers thing was pitiful. It was Gene and Spaz mishandling a personnell matter by lying, or at least telling a half truth, about it. Unfortunately, that's something that goes on in the business world everyday. It was comical how badly it was handled, but it wasn't really that big of a deal.

This is potentially a big deal. If BC is disparaging its student athletes --- particularly this one, so long extolled as a model and with enough personal discipline to attain a black belt --- there is nothing that separates it from the cesspools of the SEC. And there is nothing that deserves my support or loyalty. Period."

It's really a no brainer..

IF,
a big IF,

..we could receive Montel Harris on a transfer..we take him..no questions asked. He's that good. At the end of the day it helps recruiting..it hurts BC..it's a positive for UMass..end of story. He can play only special teams for all I care..it's win, win.
