| Regarding the hyperbole here, Gordon was pressed into service as a Freshman due to WKU not having anyone better apparently. His shooting %s were not good, and when PPG is adjusted for minutes played; his freshman season was not as good as Rileys. WKU and Ark St both had losing records, so take what you see in the highlight video with a few grains of salt. Gordon may well turn into a fine A10 guard, but rave reviews aside, I would want to see him play some for UMass before anointing him as one half of the best backcourt even in Amherst. |

Ummmm. We'd also have Jesse, Jordan and Trey that year. Potentially a very very good crop of guards and any talk of how good our backcourt will be cannot ignore them at all. _________________ There ain't no days off. That's the only way you can get it. SUCCESS DON'T COME EASY!@big_booge5 |

His % weren't that good but taking FT's into account, his True Shooting % was 47.2%.
From Basketball-Reference.com
| Quote: | | True Shooting Percentage; the formula is PTS / (2 * (FGA + 0.44 * FTA)). True shooting percentage is a measure of shooting efficiency that takes into account field goals, 3-point field goals, and free throws. |
Comparing freshman year True Shooting % numbers:
Gordon = 47.2
Chaz = 47.6
Putney = 52.4
Jesse = 39.6 (small sample size)
Freddie = 50.9
Javorn = 43.2
Gurley = 50.4
Harris = 47.9
Lowe = 44.7
Forbes = 47.6
Now compare freshman year rebounding % numbers:
| Quote: | TRB%
Total Rebound Percentage (available since the 1970-71 season in the NBA); the formula is 100 * (TRB * (Tm MP / 5)) / (MP * (Tm TRB + Opp TRB)). Total rebound percentage is an estimate of the percentage of available rebounds a player grabbed while he was on the floor. |
Gordon = 22.8
Chaz = 14.1
Putney = 25.6
Jesse = 15.8
Freddie = 10.6
Javorn = 21.4
Gurley = 12.6
Harris = 9.5
Lowe = 10.1
Forbes = 18.1
There's a lot of reasons to be high on this kid IMO. Look a little deeper at the way he plays, his competitiveness, ability to get to the line, ability to play multiple positions, rebounding, defensive accolades, experience, and the fact that he's got a year off to work on all aspects of his game and I can see why folks think this is a great signing for us.
We do tend to count chickens before they are hatches around here but this kid looks like he could become very good for us. _________________ There ain't no days off. That's the only way you can get it. SUCCESS DON'T COME EASY!@big_booge5 |

| Great news. By having a strong season last year we are able to attract these kind of players. As we continue to grow things should only get better. |

Putney at PF is a terrible move...we need bangers down low. C Cady PF Esho SF Putney SG Morgan PG Chaz.
But next year I see
C Cady,Bergantino
PF Vinson,Esho,Sampson
SF Putney,Sampson,Javorn
SG Morgan,Riley,Javorn,Jordan
PG Chaz, Jordan,Trey,Morgan
top 25 lineup right there |

| Why is Putney at PF a terrible move? The offense last season normally had 4 players on the perimeter and then some dribbling penetration down low. Only reason he is better at SF is because of matchup issues with both Put and Vinson on the court. |

Well, for one thing, I don't think he wants to play PF. I also don't think he can guard a strong power forward. _________________ Always remember that you are unique, just like everyone else. |

| He saw time at PF last year. I am not advocating a move there, but in a pinch I see no reason why he wouldn't be able to play the position. |

Yeah, a few minutes here and there which had to do with specific match ups and situations. It's not going to be anything regular. _________________ Always remember that you are unique, just like everyone else. |

I'll agree with this.
I built Gordon's page, and in the process, saw all his numbers for this past year at WKU.
- He was WKU's workhorse, by far, having logged 1165 minutes played, a 33.3 per game average, which was 5th-most in the Sun Belt, and highest amongst freshmen.
- Led his team in scoring. Though an 11.8 number is a little low for a team leader, he was just a freshman.
- Had 4 20+ point games. Yeah, most of these were in Sun Belt play, so we'll have to see how these numbers can hold up against our level of competition.
- Went to the line 196 times. On our roster, that would have been second only to Chaz. Nationally, this was tied for 54th.
- 5th in conference in rebounding average, highest amongst freshmen. Gotta love this.
- If the Sun Belt stats turn you off, against national champ Kentucky he went for 12 points (6-11 shooting), 5 boards, and no turnovers in 36 minutes. That's encouraging.
We do tend to love our incoming players, maybe a bit too much before they step on the floor, but this kid seems to have some nice potential. |

| I think HS to college is a huge jump, and one that many kids ultimately just don't make. Sure, it's the SunBelt. But it's D1 basketball, where everyone is on scholarship and was probably the best player on their HS team. Those numbers for a freshman are eye-popping, just like Chaz' numbers were. I love the rebounding and minutes played. You don't stay on the court all game unless you are making positive plays. Defense and rebounding are great, and don't take nights off. |
