He did ask for his release correct? That's what I thought the article said. _________________ Any team, any time, any place |

I don't think he asked for his release, and I don't think he'll be playing basketball anywhere else. |

Regardless I wish him the best |
That's what I was thinking. Could he come back at some later point?
Really bums me out. I was really looking forward to this kid playing for UMass. Wow, really sucks. Hope something works out for Jordan _________________ Buccaneer: Too much to pay for corn |

From Matt V's article: "Sources close to UMass confirmed that Laguerre has left the school for personal, non-basketball reasons. He hasn't asked for his release to transfer to another program."

As several of you have already said, I'd also like to wish JL the best of luck. Obviously we are still in the dark a little as to the exact reason he is leaving UMass, but I would think their is the possibility of his coming back later on. |

Alas, Jordan, we hardly knew ye...
The fact he was out all last season with an injury called his future into some question. Tough loss, but I'm glad we could benefit and pick up Freeman as a result.
78, I think we've caught some pretty good breaks:
-Derek Gordon coming
-Issac Freeman
-Lou Roe on the sidelines next season
-Chaz for 2 more years |

None of what you have listed are "breaks." They are the result of hard work and recruiting. I think you are the first person calling into question his future because he was "out with an injury" all season. _________________ If only I could be as great a fan as Pierce9999.... |

| That sucks. I'm happy for Izzy of course, but was looking for the shooting/scoring that JL would be able to provide. In case Freddie has a cold year, it would be nice to have another three point shooter/scorer to back Jesse up in the line-up. . .I felt like Jordan could be that guy. |

| Hope things work out for JL. I've always thought it had to be really rough to be a partial qualifier - in some ways it's surprising how many kids make it. |

Not trying to derail the discussion. But, what does Freddie have to prove? He is a streaky shooter who can sometimes be the nail in the coffin if he gets hot and plays some of the best on ball defense on the team.
With Laguerre leaving, we get forced back into a short backcourt situation until we know what Trey Davis could do for us. JL leaving rules out the chance that Davis is redshirted, atleast this year. Hopefully he can play 10 minutes a game under Chaz with the same energy and intensity. |

10 minutes a game is really high for someone that was universally considered to be a redshirt as a freshman. Also, if he plays 10 minutes a game, that means Chaz only plays 30... I would think they will really only use Trey if Jesse and Chaz both need a blow
Who knows though, this kid could come in and blow everyone's doors off and be a tremendous bench option. I'm guessing 5 min per game max though.. _________________ "When I got the call, there were no negotiations, just when can I come?" -DK |

So is this what we look like right now in terms of active players for next year?
Chaz/Trey
Jesse/Freddie
Putney/Javorn
TV/Maxie/Sampson
Cady/Tyler/Izzy
If so, I agree that it certainly would have been nice to have JL and add another dimension to our backcourt - but we did well without the extra help this year, so hopefully if Tyler can play strong down low we can go far. |

Sampson Carter is one of the better dudes on the roster. Providing he is healthy, I expect to see him getting plenty of minutes at the 3, 4 or even the 5. He needs to be on the floor. _________________ "Time is going really, really, really, really slow. What's the score of the Red Wings game?" |

Today is the first I've heard anyone talk about Trey Davis redshirting.
10 minutes a game is really not all that much. You give Chaz a few 2-4 minute breathers throughout the game and there's your 10 minutes right there. And then there are going to be games that are blowouts and the last 3-5 minutes we put in all of our subs. I really think the coaching staff is going to make a concerted effort to reduce Chaz's minutes to keep him fresh for later in the season and in particular any times when we have 2+ games with little to no rest in between.
Just to add some context to this, David Gibbs (as a freshman in 08-09) played 17.5 minutes a game, even though Chris Lowe was a senior getting 30.4 min, Ricky Harris was a junior getting 32.4 min and Gurley was a sophomore getting 28.5 min.
10 min a game next year for Trey Davis sounds about right to me.
