Thought: would anyone be interested in committing now to purchasing tickets (or within, say, a month) for the conference tourney? My sense is that with it being a new building, they're really wanting to ensure they fill the place (why else would they have already started selling tickets?) and that a really good group rate could be negotiated. If anyone's interested, DM me how many tickets you'd anticipate needing. And I know there will eventually be a UMass allotment but they almost surely wouldn't be at a reduced rate. _________________ Muck Fax Page |

So does the A-10 stay with no divisions and go forward with that or do they bust up in to two divisions for when Temple and Charlotte leave? A two division deal could look like this....
West
Xavier
Dayton
Butler
St. Lou
Dukes
Bonnies
LaSalle
East
Mass
Rhody
Fordham
GW
VCU
Richmond
St. Joe's
I can't imagine Richmond and GW would want to see VCU in the other division from them since they are going to end up natural rivals. |

| Don't see any need for divisions. I think the 16 game schedule works with playing everyone once and 3 teams 2x. Also gives the A10 the flexibility of scheduling us and Butler 2x or us and Xavier 2x if we were both at the top of the conference. Can't really do that with two divisions. |

| This is cool. Maybe the best thing about the timing of Butler and VCU is the impact it could have on the TV deal. VCU and Butler have big time name recognition with their recent tournament success, and Butler adds a new market. |

Just saying.....
Also wondering who is right?
Eamonn Brennan from ESPN who I have never heard of:

| Quote: | | When the tourney move was announced in September, it was a bit of a head-scratcher. (McGlade cited the league's desire for more exposure in New York, which, well, OK. Whatever.) Now, it looks like the perfect setting to determine the A-10's automatic tournament bid, home to a 16-team event that stands to feature some of the most exciting conference-tourney action in the country. If all goes well, March's A-10 showdown could mix the big-time feel of a BCS conference tourney with a healthy dose of the mid-major do-or-die ethos, and if you're asking if this is something I would be interested in watching, the answer, my friends, is yes. |
Or:

| Quote: | | The other big change for men's and women's hoop is that four teams will miss the conference tournament now as it will still be just the top 12 teams that make the field according to UMass athletic director John McCutcheon. |
And while only temporarily does this move to 16 give the conference leverage to renegotiate the TV contract a year early at the same time the BE will be hitting the open market if they don't come to terms with ESPN during the exclusivity period?
In the interest of competitiveness i'd rather see the league go to a 15 game season. It is going to be a dog fight and there is no reason some teams should get an extra game against the bottom of the conference while others get one against the top of the conference. It would seem to favor UMass with URI not considered an Elite A-10 (Really A-10??) team but I think an extra non conference game wouldn't kill the league since teams could schedule based on what they believe their needs to be. _________________ UConn girls are........................... I say, even if it is for just one year, have a 16 team tournament. Let everyone in, give everyone a shot. It will make for a great 5 day stretch of basketball. _________________ Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades |

The league might not be able to get Barclays for 5 days. When they announced the ticket on-sale, which was before the addition of VCU and Butler, they specifically mentioned 4 days.

Since the NBA schedule isn't out yet, and Barclays isn't listing any other events in March, I suppose there's wiggle room to negotiate it. The Big East gets MSG for 5 days, and MSG has to work around Knicks and Rangers. Barclays only has to work around Nets. |

Valid point... I'd have no complaints about an AAU style tournament with teams playing two games in one day _________________ Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades |

^ With UMass' current style of play, I think their chances of winning the A-10 tournament go way down if they have to play a minimum of 4 games in 4 days... 5 in 5 would be even worse. 2 games in one day would be a absolutely brutal.
You also have to anticipate the overall quality of basketball is going to suffer the more back-to-back games teams play. |

That style of play could be a bonus in those situations as well.... we could potentially be much more conditioned than other teams, and thus we could keep churning as they start breathing heavy. _________________ Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades |

If the league stays at 16 games and does the 14+2 format, these are the pairings I'd like to see:
UMass - Temple
URI - Fordham
St. Joes - LaSalle
St. Bonnie - Duquesne
GW - Charlotte
Richmond - VCU
St. Louis - Butler
Xavier - Dayton
Not only does it give us one last home and home with our departing former rival Temple, but it keeps most geographic rivals together and also puts this year's expected stronger teams together. |

So they just have to end up in the top 4 and earn the double bye. #ThatWasEasy _________________ UConn girls are........................... Huskies!! |
