Nice UMass (despite use of the hyphen) mention for #32, the Conn Smythe trophy winner!! Cool

This is very special for our program and our school.

Quickie just lifted the Cup.

When teamed with what Victor accomplished, who woulda thunk it?

Someone I am friends with on FB brought this up, has there ever been a school with alums that have won a Stanley Cup and a Super Bowl in the same year? I think not.

I'll get excited when Jon or one of the interviewers actually mentions UMass.

Way to go, Quick!! I got chills when I heard his name announced by Bettman as the Conn Smythe winner. Hope you all saw this on UMassAthletics.com:

What's awesome about that is that regardless who had won the Super Bowl (Pats or Giants), we'd still have that banner today!

I agree, but it isn't like it is completely unknown that he went here. They've used footage of him from them in various intermission segments and such. It's still out there, just a bit sad that he isn't more "open" about it.

I believe it was NBC announcer Mike Emerick that stated something along the lines of "from UMass-Amherst to the Stanley Cup" right as the game ended, so there was a shout-out there. Shame about the hyphen part, but still a nice mention at a perfect moment even if Jon didn't say it himself.

That's the mention I referred to in my post at the top of this page.

I was unaware of Quick not being "open" about being a UMass guy. Is it coincidental or is something else going on?

I just think he has other priorities. I've heard that Quick, while maintaining ties with UMass, is not particularly close to the program. Maybe he considers UMass nothing more than a two-year stopover in his professional development, but that's OK. Julius Erving maintained some ties with Jack Leaman but otherwise he has never been particularly close to the basketball program, either.

Quick mentioned UMass and Toot last night in a post game interview on the NHL network. I don't think there is any hiding UMass here at all, WBZ is mentioning Quick and UMass every :30 in the sports segment as well.
