Also, the second Notre Dame 5th year "recruit", WR Deion Walker, is on campus so we should see an official announcement soon adding him to our team. _________________ UMass '87 |

Kid has some serious wheels and moves. Nowhere near as big as the NY paper article says. I met him at the spring game, was sitting in the stands close to me and he had his nametag hanging around his neck so that's how I knew who he was. Said a quick hello, wished him luck and told him I was looking forward to seeing him out there on the field. My guess is he about 5'9. _________________ UMass '87 |

Haven't seen this mentioned yet. The program just added a preferred walk-on, DE John Bieren. Sounds like a quality person and student-athlete.
Bieren still South’s center of attention
| Quote: | | Knight likes intelligence at the position. Senior John Bieren, a three-year starter and team captain, is second in a class of over 500 students. |
Passed on by MIT, Harvard, Carengie Mellon, Bieren – No. 3 in class – takes skills to UMass
| Quote: | | “If I can crack the second team, they promised me a football scholarship,” Bieren said. “Academically, UMass is a great program for me. The computer science program is ranked 20th in the country.” |

I see a few new names on the roster. One is Ian Sybilis, WR/DB. Apparently offered by Penn State at one point, and has been clocked at a 4.38 40. He's originally from Everett, MA, and is the younger brother of Omar Easy.

Another is Al Leneus, DL. There's less info out there on him, but if this link is believable, he was attracting interest from Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple, and BC.

Don't know whether these guys are preferred walkons or late scholarship offers, but it seems like they could be in a position to help the team at some point, maybe even in the very near future with the depleted roster. |

I spoke to Mr. Sinnett from UMass media relations. Both of them are walkons. Whether or not they are preferred walkons, I don't know, but they were not scholarship earners from the 2012 class. _________________ "Wherever I go, I’ll never be bashful about being from UMass, baby.” -Victor Cruz |

One time near-commit Brandon Holifield was one Mizzou players suspended for this weeks game due to pot bust. He wasn't arrested like 3 other players were but was suspended anyway. _________________ UMass '87 |

| Preferred's make the team, but don't get a scholarship. Basically think of it as creditors. First is Scholarships, Second is Preferred, and Third is Walk Ons. Pretty sure the normal walk-ons have to have a try out, and definately no ship, so I think from the beginning they are on the lowest of the stick, obviously can work up after time. |

| Does anyone know the status of groundbreaking on the new football building, it has been promised for opening by July 2014 and it will greatly impact recruiting going forward? UMASS facilities are second rate at best. |
