I think Marty is spot on with 10-6. I see us maybe losing one more at home and winning one more on the road. What I think he is saying though that 10-6 is a realistic goal given the league and that for most of last year we weren't good on the road. I think with a bit of luck 11-12 wins would be fantastic while less than 10 wins would be disappointing.

I think next season is going to be the most competitive and compelling A10 season ever. We had 8 top 100 teams last year with double digit conference wins (including conf tourney) and 20+ wins overall.

Can we finish with 10 teams in the top 100 next season? Seems possible. The top teams might not be any better than the top teams last year but the bottom and middle look like they'll be better.

According to this tweet it seems possible that the field includes UNC Asheville instead of Southern Miss. Hopefully a downgrade that wouldn't end up affecting our RPI.

FWIW, UNC-Asheville was in the NCAA tournament last year and played close games with UConn, Syracuse, Tennessee, and (relatively close with) UNC. Just because they don't have the name value doesnt mean that this is something to be worried about.

Good point, UNC-Asheville's final RPI was 104, certainly not damaging, and probably the range we want to be playing people in. Southern Miss' was 20- just would've been a better win on the name recognition scale and in the RPI if it came down to it.

I checked the school's release and can confirm that we're playing them at their place on Nov 28th.

They return their top two guys, a terrific sophomore point guard who averaged 13 and 5 as a rookie and is listed at 5'8" 147, so consider him Chaz-esque. They also have a big guy who averaged 15 points and 12.5 rebounds. That's not a misprint on the rebounds. Other than that, they don't return much, but recall that we just squeaked out a win in Springfield last year and this is the marquee game of their non-conference home schedule. Siena draws really, really well. A lot of die hard hoop fans in the capitol region and not much to watch in terms of first rate bball, so it wouldn't surprise me if they bring close to 10K to the Times Union Center, particularly if we open well and are getting national hype. I think this is one of those games where we can throw a lot of bodies at their big and have Chaz neutralize their pg. On paper, our athleticism should be too much for them to handle, but the combination of it being a road game and their returning talent makes this one of those games you have to worry about. Last year, we avoided laying a true egg in the non-conference (Charleston was a shitty game, but it was in a tournament and they were pretty good at the time) and I'm hoping we can do the same this year, but the prospects of this game being on the road does worry me.

Thanksgiving is the 22nd, Siena is at Maine on the 25th (a miserable road trip which I hope happens to be a really snowy one this year) and then hosts us on the 28th. My hope would be that we get some time to prepare for this game. You have to figure we'll have one game between the 19th and this one, as we open with Harvard on the 13th and then play in PR on the 15th, 16th, and 18th. Ideally, we can get a total cup cake in on the 21st (giving the guys a week off before Siena) or a decent tune-up on the 24th, giving fans in the area for the holiday (ie a selfish hope for yours truly) the chance to see the team in action but still ensuring they're well rested for Siena.

Excellent analysis, as usual, Marty.

I wouldn't mind if we had another Friday after Turkey Day "Cage match" against maybe Eastern Michigan as a tune up.

Amtrak from Springfield to Albany on game day leaves at 2:15 and arrives at 5:35.

The following day you can get a return at 3:25 arriving at 5:48 back to Springfield.

Round trip is a whopping $32 for an adult, discount for seniors. Grab a hotel and maybe do some X-mass shopping before the return trip the next day!!

Sounds like a fun road trip to me!!! Very Happy
