If the marketing group REALLY wanted to go outside of the box on this, they'd have a cost comparison as part of their ads. I'm not so sure the U would want to go in that direction, though....

Well, it's kind of like charging less for tuition. For every person who sees it as getting value, another person sees it as evidence that it's an inferior product. I would say beat BC or at least have a better season than them before going that route.

I don't see the comparison. I get the school vs school comparison (having lived it for how many years now), but literally the "Gillette Stadium" portion of the comparison takes away quite a bit of the "inferior product". Go after it. Make it happen. BC has already said "fuck you" to UMASS in terms of sports with them dropping us in basketball. Might as well give them the finger back, at least.

IMHO getting into a direct pissing match with BC or any other competition wouldn't be the way to go. No need for our vs. theirs. The focus should be accentuating the positives.
"UMass Football Season Tickets @ Gillette Stadium Starting at $??.00!"
"Club Seats for Only $??.00!"
"Experience College Football at the Highest Level Like Never Before In New England"
"Free Parking!"
"Tailgating Before and After Games!"
"Marching Band Concert After Games!" (not sure if they will do that but...)
"Experience Patriot Place"

Like I said, it would be quite the outside the box idea, but not a path I think our department would want to go down. Yes, BC does continue to say "screw you" to UMASS, but that doesn't mean we need to sink to their level.

Just keep pushing Gillette.

I'd love to see UMASS tell BC to fuck off, but I also don't mind the "be the better person" approach as well.

Getting into a pissing contest with any nearby BCS team (BC or UConn) is probably not a good idea. The marketing guru's just need to emphasize things that Boston College is unable to offer or refuses to offer casual fans (affordability, accessability, on-site parking, tailgating, facilities, shopping, dining, entertainment, on-site hotel, etc.) and savvy football fans will read between the lines. It gives sports fans another option in a crowded sports entertainment market.

In line with the Grass roots effort they are pushing I really hope that someone in the department is working the PR angle HARD!

I love the idea of coach Molnar on at halftime of the Pats game.

What about the athletic director taking Jenny Dell on a tour of Gillette and talking about what the game day experience will be like for spots to run on NESN.

Does Chronicle still run up there? They could probably do a whole show on what the move means for the State University.

There are a lot of media outlets in New England and I hope UMass is reaching out to all of them and making an effort to give them all the access they can to the program. Invite, Invite, Invite, should be their motto

Speaking of Jenny Dell...if NESN shows some of our games they should use Dell as the sideline reporter. I'm not a Sox fan, but I follow her and notice she's very active on Twitter and could be a great way to get people to notice us.

Every little bit helps...

All great ideas! I posted on Chronicle's FB page about the idea. Worth a shot.

The Jenny Dell idea is great as well... a great use of an alum to help promote!

She's extremely active on Twitter...... but as far as I've seen has never mentioned UMass once. I'm sure that is a Sox/NESN mandate where the only thing she's allowed to comment on are their properties (Sox, soccer, Nascar, Lebron) but christ, throw the dog a bone already!!

Just Tweeted her:
@JennyDellNESN Going to make any of the UMass Football games at Gillette? Or do we have to hope for a Fenway Bowl which has the MAC & UMass?

Sounds crazy but maybe a grassroots push by some superfans toward different media outlets could help, can't hurt right? I mean Penn State fans are actively recruiting kids on twitter....
