As far as becoming an RSO to elaborate on what Cam said basically all the money they give us basically makes it back to them in some form in the way of outrageous fees for things such as a table rental. Also when trying to access funds for an RSO you need to submit a request in advance and all money you spend must have a receipt with what the thing was genuinely used for. Basically throw in typical delays and then the office messing something up and you can see why it is so frustrating.
I think we are too small for awards right now. I think our E-Board and prob 5 other key members would win every award, and well that wouldn't exactly be worth the expense in my opinion. I would love to do something with the graduates like you guys on this board, I think it would be a great time to talk some UMass basketball. I don't know where we would have that and I would say 98% of the Militia isn't 21 so we couldn't meet you at a bar for beers, although I would gladly meet you there and drink a soda or water. I hope eventually to be able to have a great event with all of you.
As always if you have any ideas, comments, suggestions, or want to come hangout at a game don't hesitate. _________________ Go. Go U. |

The Hangar and/or Rafters would be two places you could def have something with older fans. _________________ Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades |

Wanted to bump this up...
Just seeing if theres anything you guys would want to see out of the student sections this year. During the fall freshman orientation there is an Athletics 101 with a lot of coaches and the whole freshman class. I spoke last year but wasnt prepared but this year is different. We are pushing memberships and having about 10 of our members there to help out and make a big presence.
I know there is a "I Love College Hoops" group on facebook that gives out a student section of the year award but does anybody know if there was any awards given out back in the older days. I know we've reached out on here before looking for advice/help/anything but jsut seeing if any new ideas have surfaced |

I wish I could be there to help out with that in any capacity. It was silly but during my orientation, one 15-minute presentation in one of the lounges in James about joining the then-Maroon Platoon and I was hooked. And it was just one kid giving the presentation.
Above all else, I would say, sell "being part of something special" to these kids. They get to be around to ride the buzz of the first legitimate preseason expectations and excitement for the basketball program in years, not to mention a part of the rebirth of the football program AND the beginning of a new head coaching era in hockey (a little less exciting, but still). Stress that football is now fully "D1", that hockey plays in the premier conference in college hockey, that hoops is in a conference that just added two very recent Final Four teams and is on the upswing, Temple be damned. Stress that the Conn Smythe trophy winner got started here, that the star wide receiver of the Super Bowl champs wore the maroon-and-white, and hell, one of the greatest tennis players of all time is becoming part of the family too.
Maybe show Youtube clips of the Cage/Mullins back in the 90s, when Amherst was one of the loudest, roudiest places to visit in the nation. Let them know that this team, in particular, is poised to do big things once again - and they can all be a part of it. _________________ Fight Mass: Give Me a Cruel New England Winter |

BittyM with maybe the best avatar I've ever seen on this board. I don't even know how to create an avatar, much less a customized one like that, so that makes it all the more impressive.
And that Militia video was the best hype video I've seen since the NBA-themed "Where legends are made..." video a few years ago. Really, really good stuff.
I'll admit to being really nervous about this season due to all the injuries and JL's transfer, but I still think this team has a lot of talent and could be really, really good. I think that, unlike recent years, we're going to know A LOT about this team by December 1st. By the end of that day, we'll have played Harvard, Miami, Providence, very possibly NC State and at least one other quality opponent (there isn't anyone bad in PR). If we have a winning record, I suspect I'll feel like we're absolutely heading in the right direction and that a lot of the anxiety I'm feeling right now will begin to fade. I just want it to get here already. It's been almost five months since the NIT game. The summer seems to have gone by really quickly, but now it seems hard to believe that there's still like 80 days until actual games get under way. Seems like this off-season has been the most active on the board since I've been a member. Maybe that's why it's gone by a bit quicker. Whatever it is, now seems like the true dog days of the off-season. I'm hoping that UMass football is competitive up to at least like the first week of October. That'll provide me with enough distractions to keep me anxiety-free until right around the start of hoops practice. Then it's on. Gonna be so intense right out of the gate. I kinda like that there won't be time to get acclimated to the hype.
Unlike past years, you really have to be there from the beginning with this team because it opens with such a compelling slate of games and if they're 5-0 come the beginning of December, you'll have already missed your chance to get in on the ground floor (also a good reason to invest in season tickets or at least purchase your tickets prior to the start of the season. If they go 5-0 to open the year, it's not inconceivable that the Bill would be packed for the rest of the season. Tickets will go really quickly if they start out really well). _________________ Muck Fax Page |

^My bad. You're right. Mistakenly used "transfer" as a generic catchall for "left the program." My bad. Speaking of which, anyone know where he is now? _________________ Muck Fax Page |

| Nice video. Kind of made me sad to see Chaz jump onto Sean Carter at the end, realizing that won't ever happen again. But very much looking forward to a bright season anyway! |

Or trying to jump on Izzy...? Maybe if someone lends 10 fingers...
Liked the Militia Promo. I just wish it didn't always go back to the huddle piece every 5-10 seconds and had more highlights. Small gripe at best |

Thanks for the positive reviews guys! The video is on track to be shown to students at the freshmen orientation next week, as well as potentially midnight madness if that ends up happening.
Not sure if anyone caught it, but I added the #Project9493 Twitter hashtag at the end as a reference to 9,493 being the capacity of the Mullins Center. I think it's a reasonable goal to try to achieve a sellout at some point this year. Whether we target a specific game (Harvard, Miami, St. Joe's, Temple, etc.) or if we just try to progressively grow it is up for debate. With the way the #UMassNation and #Brotherhood hashtags grew over time last year to become pretty popular and with a lot of students now on Twitter I think this is something that we should aim to achieve. What do you guys think? |

| Would like to see a few of Freddies dunks, Put's oop that was on sportscenter, and his dunk against Fordham on there, but that video was awesome! |

If the Miami game is a night game and it's not snowing and we've opened the year with one or no losses, I think it actually will sell out. _________________ Muck Fax Page |
