There is no way in hell the gaming license doesn't go to Suffolk downs. This thing has been Deleo's baby since day 1. IV Milford isn't even on the radar really.

Suffolk won't get it. There are too many obstacles. Milford is prime from a location standpoint and a community that seems to be mostly in favor of it. (not to be confused with the surrounding communities that have been against it) The developer has been pushing it for a bit, but has been overshadowed by the emerging talk about Foxborough.... trust me, he hasn't gone away.

There is really no guarantee that any site will get it, but I believe Milford will get the casino for the region and Suffolk will get the slot parlor.

I love this quote:

Quote:
a strategy that will include small research groups working over the course of the next nine months to a year perfecting arguments showing how surrounding communities would be hurt by the proposed $850 million Crossroads Resort casino, hotel, and retail complex.

What obstacles? Traffic? That will be a major concern at every site.

Suffolk has the least amount of obstacles as anyone in the state. Menino wants it, east boston officials want it, and Deleo wants it (which means Grossman will want it). It's already zoned, they have land aplenty, and the T is right there. Not to mention the unemployment is the area is at the top in the region which is a major factor. Caesers didn't partner with them for nothing.

As the article stated, there isn't much opposition in the east region because it's a "done deal". The most powerful one, wynn, is about to take his ball and go home.

Taunton has now entered the race: http://www.boston.com/Boston/metrodesk/2012/02/taunton-mayor-and-mashpee-wampanoag-tribe-detail-plans-for-resort-casino-off-route/Prnmn3mFcuwhBDr0PdbW3O/index.html?p1=News_links

Foxborough held town elections yesterday and the town voted in pretty much all non-casino supporters into the various offices.

Foxborough's loss is potentially Milford's gain. I'm diggin it!

http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/2012/08/21/mgm-proposes-million-gambling-resort-downtown-springfield/Rzbroz2pi5qXeIAq2aWPKN/story.html

Officials in Springfield are going to be hard-pressed to turn this down, as their city is in dire need of serious economic development.

Plan calls for the MassMutual Center to be kept as-is, with a new pedestrian bridge leading to it from the MGM property.

It's a creative proposal. I don't know how successful a casino in the middle of downtown Springfield will be; then again, the MGM people obviously know a lot more about casinos than me.

Could anyone give an opinion on the infrastructure in the proposed area? Could it handle a large influx of cars (ideally a crowd for both a game and the casino)? How many parking structures nearby? Etc.

This would be a big win for the HTM department I think. They have a casino based class and there would probably be some hospitality feature (I have t read the proposal yet) involved that HTM students could latch on to and try and get a foot in the door while still at school. My gut feeling however is that Springfield wouldn't be able to facilitate the extra traffic. I thought that was part of the reason Palmer made a good site.

seems like great timing, too, for the new owners of the paramount Theatre who want to do a $35M restoration of the 2,300 seater...

It would make the longmeadow curve and the south end bridge even more of a mess. Holyoke would have been the best location in the valley. After that Palmer outside the valley. A casino downtown would b a mess, or like Detroit for that matter.

WBZ TV had on the news tonight the proposed casino pitch by MGM for downtown Springfield. They also submitted their non refundable 400 K application fee.

I'd be very curious to know what type of roadway infrastructure changes would be made to accommodate this. 91 is already a mess and 291 isn't pleasant by the 91 interchange either. Hard to update a elevated highway, so I'd imagine we'd see some major major renovations to Rt 5 on the otherside of the river as an viable alternate N-S route through the area.

They would have to fix the Exit 3 and Exit 2 mess as well.
