With the news about Thomas getting sent down I thought it would be a good time to look and see how UMass's alumni who made the next step into the pros have been doing this 2004-2005 season. Its quite a range of leagues and locations. When you look at the stats you can definately see that UMass's gift to pro hockey hasn't been goal scoring but instead beating up the other team. Cool

I listed the players according to their last season that they played at UMass:

2004 -Thomas Pock -Hartford (AHL) 15 GP, 0 G, 4 A, 4 PTS, 8 PIM
-Charlotte (ECHL) -NO GAMES

2004 -Greg Mauldin -Syracuse (AHL) 30 GP, 4 G, 10 A, 14 PTS, 21 PIM

2004 -Nick Kuiper -Norfolk (AHL) 38 GP, 2 G, 2 A, 4 PTS, 43 PIM

2003 -Tim Turner -Kalamazoo (UHL) 40 GP, 11 G, 8 A, 19 PTS, 50 PIM

2002 -Jimmy Callahan -Kansas City (UHL) 37 GP, 7 G, 9A, 16 PTS, 36 PIM

2002 -Toni Soderholm -HFIK-Helsinki (Finland) 34 GP, 3 G, 13 A, 16 PTS, 22 PIM

2002 -Samuli Jalkanen -Jokerit-Helsinki (Finland) 10 GP, 0 G, 1 A, 8 PIM

2002 -Kelly Sickavish -Wichita (CHL) 29 GP, 0 G, 4 A, 4 PTS, 38 PIM

2001 -Scott Horvath -Atlantic City (ECHL) 32 GP, 4 G, 5 A, 9 PTS, 25 PIM

2001 -Markus Helanen -Jokerit-Helsinki (Finland) 4-4-3, 13GP, 2.14GAA, .934SV%, 2 SO

2000 -Chris Brannen -Topeka (CHL) 37 GP, 2 G, 12 A, 14 PTS, 16 PIM

1999 -Dean Stork -Texas (ECHL) 36 GP, 3 G, 14 A, 17 PTS, 28 PIM

I got my information off of www.hockeydb.com but if you have anything on another player feel free to chime in. Also feel free to update a player as much as you want.

Ok, since I date Wardy by a little bit in terms of introduction to UMass hockey, I'll do some of the older players. These are the guys who I personally learned the game of hockey from.

Most of these guys appear to no longer be in hockey, or have reached a place where hockeydb.com can no longer reach them.

Warren Norris
2003-04 Graz EC Aust 48GP 22G 32A 54pts 103PIM

Rob Bonneau
2003-04 Jacksonville Barracudas WHA2 7GP 5G 5A 10pts

Brian Regan
2003-04 Missouri River Otters UHL 17GP 3.85gaa 3W 11L 2T 0.893SV%

Tom Perry
2003-04 Miami Manatees WHA2 34GP 8G 34A 42pts 42pts

Tim Lovell
2003-04 Adirondack IceHawks UHL 3GP 1G 3A 4pts 2PIM

Still trying to find out where Brad Norton is playing during the lockout.

I can see it now, the defensive pairing of Sean Regan and Tom Zabkowicz leading the Steelheads all the way to the Kelly Cup...

Congrats to Regs on the pro contract...wonder how he'll enjoy Idaho...

Dean Stork signed with the Stockton (CA) Thunder of the ECHL. I love how the East Coast Hockey League has a Pacific Division.

More news from the inappropriately named West Coast Division of the East Coast Hockey League:

Scott Horvath has signed to play with the Victoria (BC) Salmon Kings.

Though, for the record, it isn't called the East Coast Hockey League...it is simply the ECHL, which stands for...well...nothing anymore.

He was playing in Atlantic City which folded only a year after winning the Kelly Cup. It was too bad that he didn't stick around because his little brother was a real trip in the stands rooting for UMass.

I was told secondhand that Brad turned down an offer to return to the Capitals, and I believe he is living in LA with his new wife (who is also a star on Playboy TV, far more noteworthy than any NHL career). I was also told that he is hoping to sign an NHL deal somewhere this year.

Peter Trovato is playing for the Adirondack Frostbite (Glens Falls, NY) of the UHL. Anyone in the upstate NY area might keep in mind Dec 4th when the Frostbite will host Tim Turner and the Kalamazoo K-Wings.

Some other updates.

Brad Norton is playing in Finland this year for the Helsinki Jokerit where he can trade Joe Mallen stories with Samuli Jalkanen. He already has 40 PIM in 5 games.

As mentioned, Tim Turner is still with the K-Wings. His brother appears to be out of hockey.

Solderholm is playing in Switzerland for Bern. I believe Bern is the team that Gilligan now coaches, or once coached, or something.

Blair Manning must hold the record for most teams by a UMass player.

The update I have on Norty - he went to camp with LA as a free agent, then was among the last cuts.
