|
|
As January comes to a close, I'm starting to watch the league standings. There's a real chance that we'll be squeezed out of the A-10 tourney.
As of today, disregarding tie-breakers, we're tied for 11th with GW and the Duqies, all at 1-4. Fordham occupies the cellar at 0-6.
Next up for GW:
1/27 SLU
1/30 @ URI
2/03 @ CHAR
Next up for Duq:
1/28 @ XAV
1/31 JOES
2/03 @ TEM |

I don't like the new setup where the bottom teams are left out of the conference tourney, but it seems to be the current trend in the expanding conferences. I'm not saying that Umass would win it, but they should at least have a chance to try to win 4 games in 4 days. It also gives the fans something to wish for. We could lose the rest of the regular season games, but hey maybe we can make a run in the tourney. We have been saying that for the last 12 years.
Didn't Georgia win the SEC a couple years ago after finishing last or next to last? |

Georgia won 4 in 4 in 2008, as the SEC East 6 seed

The SEC has 12 teams, so they don't need to pass anyone over.
The too-Big East, 16 teams, changed up last year. In 2008, their bottom 4 finishers didn't qualify. In 2009, everyone qualifies, but seeds 1-8 get a first round bye.

The A-14 could make it work, if they wanted to, but seems they like the format as-is. |

The 1-4 seeds in the Big East byes in the first AND second rounds. 5-8 seeds get "just" a first-round bye |

There is more interest in the SEC and Big East first round games than the late round A10 games. The fan base just doesn't exist. _________________ Welcome Back DK!

It wouldn't shock me if we shocked some teams in A-10 tourney action. _________________ WUSTL Hoops: 4 NCAA's, 3 final fours, 2 national titles 103-17 in four years. D3 Dynasty indeed. |

Unless our big men come around and someone really starts playing point guard, it would shock the hell out of me if this team beat anyone in the A10 tournament. And, as Len says, this team still has to win enough games to qualify for the tournament. _________________ It's better to burn out than to fade away |

I would say flabbergasted would be a better adjective considering we have not won an A10 tourney game in a long time with much better teams. |

| If by some miracle we do get there, our seed will be low enough to get a top seed opponent in return. It will be tough. |

| The only top seed that presents major problems for us would be X. All others are beatable as we will see during the remaining games. I'm not saying we will win these games but we will prove them to be beatable opponents. I hoping that by the end of the season UMass is the team no one wants to play. |

| The highest seed we could play in the first round is 5. |

The LaSalle game was certainly winnable. We just came out flat in the second half and dug ourselves a 10 pt pit. With the 12th seed, we might end up playing Richmond. Prior experience suggests they are beatable for us. _________________ Always remember you are unique, just like everyone else. |

| Does the A10 provide "if the season ended today" scenarios that would show what the tourney would look like? The NFL does this after every week with all the tiebreakers at the time digested. |
