Except, not so much.....
Worked as commentator for UMass Basketball Radio Network (1995-96 season).
Barbee began his coaching career as an assistant at UMass (1996-98), where he was involved with two NCAA Tournament teams.
First note from Mike's Alumni page for Tony. Second note, from his bio on his UTEP profile page. |

6th line up from the bottom
| Quote: | | Barbee worked as a graduate assistant at UMass during the 1995-96 season. The Minutemen fashioned a 35-2 mark, advancing to the NCAA Tournament Final Four under Calipari. Barbee's duties that year included serving as the team's radio color analyst. |
Google Tony barbee and graduate assistant if you don't believe that either. |

Would be nice to get series with Auburn and Kentucky being developed...especially with Auburn at this stage in our teams history. _________________ Any team, any time, any place |

| "you have now entered the Cal Zone" when Mullins opened was pretty corny. |

Figured some of you might be interested:
I was in Auburn this past weekend for a football game. First of all, the new arena is frickin beautiful, but more importantly Barbee was on hand outside Jordan-Hare before the game mingling with fans and basically just making himself available. I asked a number of different Auburn people what they think of him, and while I'm now convinced Auburn fans are the nicest people in the universe and may not be capable of speaking negatively about a hoops coach, all I heard was unanimous excitement that people were very pleased with the hire. The conventional wisdom seems to be that Auburn is making a serious commitment to being an SEC power in hoops and that Barbee is a perfect fit. I was glad to hear that, good for him. |

Hopefully we can get some type of series going with Auburn. That would be great. Whethe its's something that could happen every year or a home and home. Even if it was a 2 for 1 deal, having Auburn come to Mullins with Coach Barbee would be a great thing. _________________ Any team, any time, any place |
