My dictionary defines "fluke" as "any accidental stroke of good luck".
The Calipari years were a "fluke".
I would not count on it happening again in my lifetime. |
No they were not a fluke. A fluke would have been if Cal was not a good coach, if the players weren't good players, and they still won the way they did.
It was not a fluke that Pitino basically got Cal hired because he knew what a great coach he was going to be.
Fluke? You got the definition right, but it does not apply to a great coach, great players, and a great UMass alum helping to make a smart hire. That's not fair to any of them that put in the work they did to get those results. |

I disagree. I'll echo what Mike said. 100% all the time or you sit, especially in this offense. It simply will not function if players are standing around dribbling. I have yet to see this kind of discipline come from DK. Cal told him to avoid becoming their friends, and there's a good reason for that.
Our offense scores in spurts because we have three modes of operation:
1) Properly. We score and defend.
2) Reckless. We may score but we miss a lot, rush shots, and get caught out of position on defense.
3) Non-functional. We stand around passing the ball and waste the clock, then get caught napping on defense. We do not need to be in the prevent offense to play this way but it is the core of that offense.
DK hints at these things in the media but as I've said before, he needs to demand it. I would much rather lose games with a small core group of players who want to give 100% all the time and run out of gas then lose games like we have been losing them for much of this season. |

| What I am saying is that getting a coach of the caliber and abilities of a Calipari was a fluke. Calipari is a great coach, recruiter, and motivator. The likelihood of our getting another such coach is remote. And even if we did, he would not be here very long. Just my opinion. There is no doubt that the players that he recruited for UMass were great players. The results speak for themselves. Just be realistic. Is that likely to happen again? I wish it were so, but I doubt it. |

Kind of a deceiving stat given that UMass was fouling for the last two minutes of the game and URI masde almost all of its free throws. |
I completely understand that. It was shocking to me because I didn't realize it. |
