| Laptops and the internet along with tutors and understanding professors make it alot easier for student athletes to keep up with the coursework than they could do previously. Technology has paid huge dividends in this area. |

When you think you have heard of everything:
"Mocs starter Brooke Loudermilk (7-3) was taken out of the game after facing one batter in the second inning after being called for eight illegal pitches."
Is this something that happens with any frequency? _________________ "Jack didn’t have any envy in him," Calipari said. "He was the greatest coach to ever coach here." |

| What the heck are illegal pitches? My daughter was a pitcher and I never ran into it. |

| I was going to ask the same question Berkman. Is it maybe the delivery that would make it illegal? |

It has to do with a pitcher taking her foot off the rubber before delivering the pitcher, crowhopping, seperation of the hands and ball before the pitch, or the newest which involves keeping at least one part of the foot in the two lines extending from the pitching rubber. My guess would be that it had to do with moving around her feet in her motion.
Monica Abbott had quite a few Illegal Pitches in her day

| Jogged my memory. There is something about having to come to a stop for a very breif moment when you start your windup. |

I saw it happen a couple of years ago in a state tournament high school game. The North Reading pitcher pitched the same way she had all year, and all of a sudden they started calling illegal pitchers on her. _________________ If only I could be as great a fan as Pierce9999.... |

I believe that rule is primarily in International play. Many pitchers in the the US have a slight pause, but I have never seen an illegal pitch called for that in college play.
Enforcement of illegal pitches is anything but uniform. The umpire calling 8 against Loudermilk is almost unheard of. |

Go 5-0 on the weekend with a win over Robert Morris, 6-1, to move record to 11-4. 7 games coming up beginning March 18 in their next and final tournament of the season in San Diego. Great start so far. _________________ If only I could be as great a fan as Pierce9999.... |

Folks who know softball: What's the chances that this team is very, very good - even by our standards? 11-4 is better than usual in the South, but some of the opposition hasn't been the iron. _________________ "Jack didn’t have any envy in him," Calipari said. Hard to tell, OC. Even the 7 games they are playing in the San Diego tournament do not feature many ranked teams. Seems to me that in the past, the competition in these tournament has been much tougher. _________________ If only I could be as great a fan as Pierce9999.... |

The competition has been tougher the past two years...this schedule is pretty similar to the ones in 2006 and 2007. The San Diego tournament will be a challenge just to the number of games. Texas A&M, SDSU, and Long Beach State all went to Regionals last year. Kansas has a new coach, Oregon State is struggling, USD is pretty beatable too. UMass played UIC earlier this year in Miami
The line for Sara Plourde on the weekend
4-0 30 innings pitched 4 ER 51 SO
This team is good, how good are they compared to previous years? I'm not sure
Carly Normandin returning at the top of the lineup was a huge boost for the team |
