| chaz hit 2 incredibly difficult shots today, one on the scoop layup late on the blow by and the other the scoop floating runner while being fouled and flying out of bounds (inexplicably wasn't on the umassathletics highlights). |

Chaz is what a point guard should be with his attitude and leadership. His game will only get better and better because he has character and integrity.
Cant beilieve he is only a soph and will be here two more years. How fortunate. |

Just about everyone is in agreement on how great of a year Chaz had. I wanted to check his numbers against UMass single season records and the result is that his year was EPIC. Here's how his season's numbers stacked up:
Pts - 9th
3pt % -10th
ft made - 2nd
FTA - 7th
assists - 3rd
min - 3rd
steals - 2nd
steals/game - 4th
Unbelievable. To do that all in one year and he's got 2 more years here. If this kid learns a consistent move to the left, he's absolutely unstoppable. |

The sky is the limit for Charlie W. He could make an all-america team, before he's done. He could get his jersey in the rafters. He could be an Atlantic 10 player of the year. Who knows, maybe twice. He could be 1st team All A10, again. And again.
But most importantly, he could get UMass back in the big dance after a LONG absence.
What he's already done (not by himself, but a huge part), is fire up the bandwagon again. |

I completely agree.
This team's biggest problem is how to play at the same level when Chaz isn't having a great game. It's a good problem to have. |

If I'm reading this right, he had 627 points this season. That's INSANE!!! But only 280 in conference. So he's going to hit 1,000 easily by like January of next season. Depending on the amount of extra games we get the next two years, he could join Monty and Jimmy Mc as 2,000 point scorers!!! CRAZY!!!

Yes, 627 total.
2k is possible. Tripling that # gets him to 1881. Extra games will be hard to come by... gotta think he'd play the same amount of A-10 tournament games, and we'd have to get real good real quick to get more games from a post season tournament standpoint.... He would have had a chance to pass Jim if he played as a frosh here. He would really need to bump the average up to really get close. Monty is within sight if he can get the average up. _________________ Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades |

Good Lord.
There's an enormous difference between an amateur photo and paid-subscription-based content from one of the 800 pound gorillas in sports media. That makes sense, right? |

Back on track...
I compiled the numbers and updated Chaz's page.
http://umasshoops.com/wiki/doku.php?id=williams_chaz
There were a boat-load of good bullet points to make, with the 231 assists, 81 steals, and almost 1300 minutes played. And at 627 points on the season, he was just 2 away from an average of exactly 17 a game.
I also did some comparisons about how we did as a team when he was on/off.
He averaged nearly 4 more points per game when we won.
Assists average was a 6.5 when we won, just a 2.8 when we lost.
Assist to Turnover ratio was 2.1 when we won, 1.4 when we lost.
When he...
Shot .500 or better from the floor, we were 9-2.
Shot less than .333, we were 3-5.
Shot .250 or less, we were 0-3.
Had 7 or more assists, we were 13-4.
Had an A:TO of 2:1 or more, we were 17-4.
Had an A:TO that was less than 1:1, we were just 1:5.
Looking forward to two more years of Chaz being A-10 First Team, and hopefully Player of the Year in there too. |
