That's a pretty big club... If each membership cost $100 a year, we'd have enough funding to be BCS already

a game of two teams that seem to have peaked early, loser effectively (but not technically) eliminated from playoff hunt. Not that that should be on any reasonable fan's mind, but just sayin'.

31-19 JMU. anyone else have the guts?

I see UMass winning the ground battle on both sides of the ball, but can they step up the pass defense to give our red zone offense enough chances to score?

JMU is fast and physical, and our defensive line isn't deep. Our offense needs to reinvent itself for this one and stay on the field. We need come out sharp early and put JMU behind, but that's the furthest thing from what UMass has been doing lately. Nevertheless, that's what has to happen.

Looking at the stats... UMass should have the upper hand in every area of this game except coaching. Lets see if Morris gets this team woken up or if they are packing it in. Playoffs are still possible if we win vs JMU URI and Maine. I dont see it happening but still possible.

Hopefully they come out and play a solid game of football with no mistakes. They could get this thing back on track with a great effort against JMU. Love to see it happen and I think we have the talent and character to do it.

JMU has the 84th ranked offense in the nation. Their RB has run for the least amount of yards in the CAA. Their defense is one of the best though. Gotta run the ball this game and keep the weak Dukes offense in check. If they can't score, they can't win.

I'll be "live blogging" the game at 3:30 on www.minutemennation.net Stop by to chat about the game or vent if things go wrong.

Go UMass! Cool

If the guys can somehow rise above the incompetence of their coach and win it would surely make things look a lot brighter for their playoff hopes. Assuming that they "should" beat Maine and URI it would leave them a home game against Delaware. Obviously, a win there would give them a berth and most likwly a bye, but lets not get ahead of ourselves.

Today, I think it comes down to 2 big things.

1. The offense needs to move the ball against JMU's tough defense. Obviously they'll need to finsh drives but they also can not have 3 and outs to give JMU great field position time and time again. Our defense has shown they can only hold up for so long against poor field position. The max of D can give up I believe is 21 points and even that may be too much. Look for our offense to put up 14-24 points. If it's closer to 14 then they probably don't win, if it's 24 then we're probably looking at a big win. It'll all come down to finishing drives either by making FG's, or pounding it in. The right plays need to finally be called to do this.

2. Our defense needs to creat turnovers, field position and plays for negative yards. I haven't been too upset with the defense all year, but it has been a trend that they don't make positive plays. By that I mean they'll hold the opponent to runs of 2-3 yards or an imcomplete pass but they are not getting the ball or producing negative yardage where the offense is put in tough 2nd and 3rd down positions. Look for holmes to rally the troops and have a big game.

Obivously, none of this matter if Morris gets in the way again and does not give the guys a chance to win. All in all, I believe this will be a better game than we've seen the last 2 weeks and it'll be close. However, we still have not seen our guys beat anyone on the road in a long time who we can consider a quality opponent. Being on the road will factor into this.

Prediction: JMU 23 UMass 17

According to Morris:

Quote:
"This week is all about coming out with an attitude and enjoying playing football. The kids have been good. I think they're over it. They came out ready to move on. The Richmond thing didn't go our way at the end and against UNH we didn't play well at all. Let's shake that off and start anew and let's go," Morris said. "Guys are tired of being frustrated. Let's go out and play. This week is all about us and playing our brand of football. It's been very positive."

To me this is code for "we're not changing anything, the players just need to play harder." I don't think that's the problem. The kids don't look tight to me. We're playing physical. I think the problems have been execution and opponents exploiting our schemes. If our plan to beat JMU is to go into their stadium and just play harder than them in front of their home fans with both our seasons on the line, then I have a bad feeling about this game. We need to adjust to what defenses have been doing to us for the past 4 games, or we're going to have to win this game by shutting JMU out.

Wow, I really hope Morris doesn't think it has been the players fault. They are playing plenty hard except for the 2nd half last week when they gave up, and I have a hard time blaming them after how poorly they were prepared by their coach.

Jackman you're absolutely right. Morris and the rest of the staff need to make adjustments. They've done the same thing since game 1. Other teams started to catch on to their schemes, but Morris has been no changes week to week or even in the games. I pray that they have made some changes and atleast give the guys a chance to win today.

Here we go! Lets go UMass!! Love that first play call, play action more often Morris!

Great first few plays...now thats what we're capable of! Now lets finish this drive with 7!

Edit: Such BS. I spoke too soon. They get a great gain on play action on the first play then they run run run till they have to pass. Just like the last few games. Should of had 7 on that drive....lets see what the defense has today.

UMass up 3-0. Talley was open for a TD on 3rd down but he couldn't hang onto the pass. Violette kicked a 33 yarder.
