^ I know you're joking, but before someone comes on here and thinks that's a good idea, I just want to point out you need a conference invite to upgrade.
Also, I don't think Michigan is coming to Foxboro anytime soon (I'd LOVE to be wrong). The conference helps a lot with getting home dates. _________________ UMass Football: 22-3 at home when I was a student. |

Most AQ teams schedule at least 4 years into the future, so finding three other FBS teams for the schedule will be difficult. (UConn is on the schedule.) So if we are playing FCS teams, we’d need a team willing to accept less than the 300k, UHN has stated as the minimum. Is there a FCS team that makes sense and would play the around the same 80k the Colonial Clash pays the home team?
It would be nice to hear the MAC teams on the schedule.
2012 Schedule
UConn – Aug 30th. |
The 2012 schedule is a bit mystifying to me...so far we are playing Indiana, UConn, Vanderbilt, and possibly Michigan (rumor). Is the rest of our slate MAC teams, or are we playing one big OOC schedule since we are not officially part of the MAC yet, just scheduling whoever we can get?
As far as FCS teams, if we are going to play any, I think it is a very good opportunity to sign up local teams below the scholarship threshold that we won't have an opportunity to play in the future: URI, Brown, Holy Cross, Harvard, Yale would all be decent games to have at Gillette as FCS teams. |

We'll be playing 8 MAC teams in addition to Indiana, Vanderbilt, UConn and a road opponent to be named later (Michigan?). I believe the MAC games will count in the conference standings, but we won't be eligible to participate in the championship game if we win our division. And divisions haven't been determined yet, so we can't be sure which MAC teams we'll be playing. There's been some talk of dividing the conference North-South or some other arrangement rather than just move Bowling Green to the West.
There won't be any good reason to schedule a FCS team for the next 5 years or so. |

Agree. If they could get URI, I think it would draw well at Gillette - if they are going to play an FCS team. _________________ Refuse To Lose!!! |

There is a guy on twitter claiming that we will play UConn at Foxboro in 13(?) on a Tuesday night for the same reason. |
Unless we signed a new agreement with Gillette, that tweet is wrong. We're only allowed to play 5 games at Gillette in 2013. 4 will be MAC games and 1 will be Vanderbilt. The renovations necessary to move MAC games to McGuirk won't be done by 2013.
Also, according fbschedules.com, UConn already has too many non-conference opponents scheduled in 2013, since they need to make room for TCU. |

| We've got two future opponents on ESPN tonight, UConn playing Iowa State and Boise State playing Toledo. |

With the distance between the Michigan and Vandy game, I think I'll be able to make both! wooooooo _________________ Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades |

| So, throwing this out to the board. With the hire of Molnar, and his ties to Notre Dame, any chance we might see Umass in South Bend? Any chance to see the Irish in Foxborough? |

Chances are probably very slim. Notre Dame only has 4 open dates on their schedule through 2016 and 2 of those 4 openings are in 2016. Notre Dame is in a unique situation because of their national profile so they likely to schedule games that will get them exposure in several different markets. Since Notre Dame already plays BC every year it is unlikely that they need more exposure in the Boston market.
All that aside, would love to see a UMass/ND game, just don't think it is in the cards for a long time though. _________________ UMass Football-2013 MAC Champions!!!!! |

Here is an analysis posted at UMassNation.com -- http://www.umassnation.com/2011/12/08/the-potential-of-umass-scheduling-notre-dame/
The Boston College point is a good one regarding the market, except not entirely true. BC does not play ND in 2013 nor in 2014. They resume their series 2015-2019.
ND does play MAC teams often. I think there is a shot, but a lot of moving pieces at work here. _________________ Class of '08 |

FYI - UMass is not playing FCS teams.

McCutcheon:
| Quote: | "We're putting together a very challenging nonconference schedule. Some people have moved up and kept their out-of-conference schedule not as challenging, even continuing to play I-AA teams. We've chosen not to go that route. That delays your ability to attract the level of athlete you want to be part of your program. We'd rather send a message of where we're trying to get to and the level at which we're trying to play.
"The more you can get those challenging teams early on, yeah you're going to take your lumps," he said. "But you get to a higher level quicker than if you go real slow in that transition. We're going to try to close that gap as quickly as we can." |
