| ND does like to play in every part of the country, and was scheduled to play UConn @ Gillette in 2013 (and then the Meadowlands in 2015), but even after UConn's cancellation ND's schedule for 2013nlooks complete, with 12 games already listed, including the one neutral-site home game (ASU @ Jerryworld). They do have a 2014 open date, but already have games scheduled in Philly and @ the Meadowlands. 2015 they're already playing @ BC again, and 2016 they're in the Meadowlands again. So I don't think the window works. (Past that it's anybody's guess, but it probably won't be because of the coaches relationship - the odds of both Molnar and Kelly having jobs at their respective universities by 2017 is 50/50 at best.) |

http://www.mac-sports.com/News/tabid/969/Article/139824/MAC-Announces-New-Football-Divisional-Alignment-In-2012.aspx
With the confirmation of the expected division alignment, we can ink in annual games against Temple, Buffalo, Ohio, Miami, Kent State and Akron for the foreseeable future. Home/away hasn't been announced yet, but my guess is that we'll get Temple and Buffalo at home on different years, and the Ohio teams will only make one road trip per season to Temple/UMass and get the other at home. This would even out the travel costs for them.
The remaining 2 games on the schedule will come from among 7 teams: Northern Illinois, Toledo, Bowling Green, Ball State, W. Michigan, C. Michigan or E. Michigan. Note that we'll be playing just as many Big Ten teams this season as we play MAC-West teams. Our real conference is really the MAC-East. It will take at least 7 years for all the West division teams to visit our stadium. I was going to write "Gillette Stadium", but we may shift a game or two to McGuirk that far out into the future.
The MAC typically finalizes its conference schedule around Feb 28/March 1.
Would we prefer playing Temple at home during the first year or the second? I'm leaning towards the second year for competitiveness purposes, but maybe everything should go towards making the first year home schedule the best it can be. |

Very tough road schedule in 2012. We play 5 teams next year that made Bowl games this season and all 5 of them are on the road. _________________ UMass Football-2013 MAC Champions!!!!! |

On the flip side it would seem if we are going to get some wins they may be at home _________________ UConn girls are........................... Huskies!! |

Absolutely right on that one. Buffalo and Central Mich. are winnable games. Kent State seems to be improving, Miami (OH) loses a ton on defense and we should be able to keep it close with them. Indiana also looks to be a game we should compete in. _________________ UMass Football-2013 MAC Champions!!!!! |

| For a good UMass team of recent vintage, those are winnable games, but the current team will need to show improvement before I'll feel confident about our chances against anyone except Akron. We start out by losing Tyler Holmes and Jon Hernandez, the two guys our defense and offense were centered around. Molnar has wood to chop. |

Agreed. The team that lost to Villanova this past seaon isn't that far into the rearview mirror. Don't count the wins for next season just yet. I'm going into next season with the very real possibility of seeing the team go 0-12. A win or two, and I'll be jumping for joy. |

Good finds there.
I tend to forget how terrible Uconn was at one point. On one hand, it's prove that the transition can be done quite seamlessly. However, it took a lot of money to turn around... not something Massachusetts will have an abundance of. _________________ Class of '08 |

Think the Seminoles or Mountaineers would come to Gillette? Of course we would need to buy out Indiana. I'm kidding. Don't berate me. | WV and FSU both wanted out of that series because with their new conference alignments they are going to 9 conference games and they only want to play 1 non-conference BCS school every year. For FSU that's Florida, and for WVU Pitt/Maryland make more sense. That trend does actually increase our chances of playing one of these schools (WVU makes more sense as somewhat of a past rival), but it would likely be a road game. |

Maybe WVU negotiated its Big East exit fee, but how likely is that before the 2012 season? As for Florida State, they sure are whining a whole lot about WVU if they truly wanted out of their home game and publicly threatening to sue for more than their previously agreed buy-out fee. For both schools, they'd probably accept a fairly probably home win against UMass team not projected by many to be all too great this fall. |
