This logo would be absolutely terrible on a helmet. There is nothing bold about it. Anybody watching UMass on TV would be saying to themselves "What the hell does it say on their helmets?" You can't go to a non-traditional color and then compound it by adding a complicated logo that is familiar to no one. I really hope this isn't what they decided on.

here is a very amatuer attempt to help visualize what the logo would look like on the black helmets. I still maintain it's better than what we had before, but prefer the simplicity of the "UM" logo.

I agree that the colors look weird but the logo is certainly distinctive.

Just because a logo is distinctive doesn't mean that it is a good logo. We could just use an image of Sam the Minuteman's creepy smile and be distinctive. The UM logo is in line with some of the best logos in college sports.

I separate logos into two categories, Letters/Words and Images. We are firmly in the Letters/Words column. Name the logos that come to mind when you think of Letters/Words:

Michigan
USC
Miami
Oregon
UNC
Notre Dame
Oklahoma
Alabama
Georgia

Trend? The logos that are most memorable are the most simplistic.
