| IMO the black looks awful! Why mess with tradition? |

| Based on this board and other folks I've talked to, it seems to be either you love the look or you hate it. Either way, you would think they would have a version of the jersey that is maroon too, we'll have to wait and see. I can't disagree with those of you who feel strongly about having a maroon jersey as the main jersey. I still really like the all black look, though. Especially the helmets... just replace the "UMass" with the "UM" logo! Also as others have said, why not have "Massachusetts" across the chest of the jersey? Why does it seem the athletic department is so averse to that? In the NCAA '13 game, we aren't even the Massachusetts Minutemen, we are just the UMass Minutemen... which is just bizarre to me (whereas UConn is the Connecticut Huskies). |

Because this was obviously a screw-up. They didn't intend to reveal the uniforms in UMass Magazine.
Matt Alkire reports on twitter that these are THE home uniforms and that the road uniforms will be white. No word on Alternate uniforms.

I don't hate the black jerseys, but I'm pissed that Maroon is taking a back seat. I would prefer all-maroon uniforms as the home jersey and all-black as an alternate.
UMass Football didn't post anything on facebook. That page you linked to is a fan created page. All they did was pull the image from Maroon Musket and upload it.
Here is the official UMass Football facebook page according to UMassAthletics.com: http://www.facebook.com/pages/UMass-Football/174480132673672 _________________ Maroon Musket.com |

After breaking the news , I never chimed in on them. I wish we copied Texas AM, Oklahoma or Alabama and went with simple all maroon and white pants. I think I understand the thinking for the all black unis perhaps. My guess is they should sell pretty good among non-traditionalists because everyone loves black athletic gear.
2. While we all want to look traditional, the upstarts that come to mind recently are Oregon and Boise State and each have unique uniforms. Colorado, Purdue and Vanderbilt come to mind as the only other black wearing FBS teams, not counting non-BCS teams. Also, maybe the goal is to be distinctive from BC who also has maroon jerseys.
In short, I wouldn't chosen all black. |

Not sure if the powers actually thought of that. BUT, it's an interesting point.
If the all blacks are the new home jerseys... I hope we get an alternate maroon uni for "special" games such as those weeknight ESPN MAC games, etc. _________________ Class of '08 |

| I hope the players love the new look. If they do, the new unis may motivate them -- you know, the old adage "Look Sharp, Feel Sharp, Be Sharp" |

Maryland, Louisville, Colorado, Rutgers, etc. At least black is among the school (non)colors of some prpgrams, but for others it's just following a short-term fad. |

| I like the uniforms, and for what it's worth based off my experience coaching at a HS where maroon is the primary color I can tell you kids (a.k.a. potential recruits) greatly prefer black with maroon and white trim when it comes to uniforms and apparel. |

That's a good adage given that home games are at Gillette, but it has nothing to do with apparel. _________________ "Win without boasting, lose without crying." -- Julius Erving |

| Hopefully they will be selling the replica Jerseys ASAP so we can all buy them. I think the colors will be very popular with the students and players and thats good - even if I prefer the Maroon & White. |
