It wasn't a win, but UMass did an admirable job in its first FBS game. TMD has the Minutemen as No. 12 after one week of play, something I didn't expect to see all year. But, this team had a legit argument to be as high as No. 11 and would have if not for a 2-1 vote for 12th. Central Michigan got the slight edge because a win is still a win, even if I personally think the Minutemen would have won that game by a wider margin.

I would not call the first game "admirable." Pathetic, depressing and disheartening are all words I would choose before admirable. But maybe I just had a bad day at work and am taking it out on UMass Football. _________________ I wish Hockey East was an all-sports conference. |

Yeah I wouldn't use such negative words for a teams first ever game as a fbs member. The kids did give it everything they had, the defense looked to be on fbs level, so the only negative I would use would be a very disappointing offensive performance. Although it was against a very tough Don Brown defense, still would hope to do better. Regardless words like pathetic are far too harsh to put on this team this year. So I'm guessing it was the work day which affected your outlook on the team last Thursday _________________ Any team, any time, any place |

| I wouldn't even say the entire offense was bad. I think the offensive line was really jittery and was crumbling against a UConn pass rush that was second in the Big East last year. Running backs had no holes and Wegzyn was under pressure all night. Hard to run an offense with no line. Even with that in mind, There is nothing to be ashamed about from week 1. We knew this year going in that it wasn't going to be pretty gettin up to speed and guess what that's holding true. But we are going up against Indiana who is one of the pin cushions for the big conferences who let up 200 yards rushing to FCS Indiana State. |
