| Pete Thamel of the NY Times just reported that Temple is in talks to join the Big East in all sports "as early as the next school year". That hurts. |

| Theres been much chatter over the year last year bout that school. From a buisness perspective, they should be back in that conference. And they can put a decent word for us. I gather our department is monitoring this, or at least they shouod. Mr. Kraft too. |

Not what I heard was going to happen, but not good news. The A-10 fans online are on suicide watch right now. I don't want to overreact, but UMass better be monitoring this closely and start discussing things. They had to know this was a possibility even before we joined the MAC. _________________ http://youtu.be/8i5A1Pn0z6k |

| Don't panic yet, we've heard this before. Remember that the Big East has multiple internal factions and only one side at a time leaks news. That may not be the side that includes Villanova. |

Fair point. However, if Temple does go to the BE, what does this mean for UMass? |

| Can anyone think of a school in the Northeast that might take Temple's spot in the MAC? I'm thinking we're not going anywhere for now, but it would be nice to have a MAC rival a little closer than Buffalo. |

If I'm not mistaken, the MAC can convert our contract to two-years if Temple leaves. This being the case, think about this situation.
By 2013, the Big East will have 11 teams - IF Louisville doesn't take off for the Big 12 and Temple doesn't make the move. So, if Temple leaves and Louisville stays, that puts the conference at 12 with Navy joining the conference in 2015 - which will bring it to 13 again.
The Big East has indicated that it wants to have an even number of schools, so if nothing else goes haywire (the Big East deciding to help Boise buy out of the MWC) and/or Louisiville leaves and is immediately replaced, then the Big East is going to have to go hunting again - and look at us, there we are at the tail end of our MAC contract by what I assume is 2014 and the Big East is uneven. Crazier things have happened (See: Conference USA/MWC merger).
Seems like we may have future options and don't have to make kneejerk maneuvers. Who even knows anymore? _________________ "Wherever I go, I’ll never be bashful about being from UMass, baby.” -Victor Cruz |

Suddenly I have a strong feeling that we won't be in the A10 much longer, or in the MAC for long at all. Just seems like things continue to move in different directions.....

| is the big east a conference worth joining? with wvu, cuse, pitt all gone, it's essentially turned into the orignial conference usa. with those teams gone the next tv contract won't be for nearly as much. |

That is my thought as well, though with Temple potentially making the move, it might be prudent to stick with them as much as we can. _________________ Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades |

| What options does the MAC have with us if Temple leaves? Do they have the right to give us the boot, or is this not the case any more? |
