This donation probably means more to us fanatics than anyone else in the world beyond Derek Kellogg. My heartful thanks to the anonymous donor.

wasn't he plan announced a few yrs. ago to get several $1M donations?
if this $11M is accurate and is in addition, outstanding...

re: anon.
cool with that...
when the community track here in Harvard MA was dedicated a handful+ yrs. ago, named in honor of our (deceased) across the street neighbor Bill McCurdy, outstanding gentleman Track&Field coach @ Harvard U., the major donor, a one-time all-american student athlete of Bill's attended but chose to remain anon. We went to the cermony and celebration after at the neighbors, and, to this day, never knew who the donor was...how he wanted it, done with class...

http://pmaconsultants.com/umass/

Bids for construction were asked for on May 9th.
Bids are due on June 5th.

This page gives the final construction plans- these are in total detail, not just the images, but everything the University is looking for out of the building and space- the whole site design, planning concepts, and contents of the building. Follow the link and then use the user name: "umba" and password: "umba" for a look at it. Warning: takes long time to load, but well worth it.

The Champions Center, interestingly, will be placed over the current baseball field. I think that's old knowledge from the previous pictures but that hadn't fully occurred to me from the previous pictures for some reason. The entrance will be on the Mullins Concourse adjacent to the current practice rink. It will be implemented in 3 phases with the basketball facility and offices 1st, the entrance facade, weight room, varsity lockers (non-basketball) and administrative offices 2nd, and then an indoor field house and tennis courts and other facilities like sports medicine added last. The footprint is larger than the entire Mullins Center footprint. This is going to dramatically enhance the prospective recruit's visit and experience at the school.

In regards to the 1st phase, the phase we're most interested in on the board- there are 3 levels to the basketball facility. All can view the courts below. On the first floor, the facilities are mirrored for the men's and women's teams. There is sports medicine, locker rooms in a circular shape with media, a player's lounge, kitchen, and film room. On the second floor are DK's and the 4 assistants offices, a reception area, conference room, marketing and sales. On the third floor is where the entrance connects to the Mullins concourse to a waiting/reception area that will eventually look over the Legacy experience room which can be accessed on the 1st and 2nd floors. There are also TV studios, work areas, and media relations on the 3rd floor. Looks really amazing.

And by the way- two of the images show a statue of a basketball player outside the athletes' entrance. This could be the chance to get that Dr. J statue in.

LOVE the way the Campions Center looks inside and out. It will definitely be a huge help in recruiting! It is a must have type of facility in my opinion in this day and age, if you want to be a legit basketball program. Especially with the way I believe the A10 can evolve as a basketball conference.

^Had forgotten that XLGMan had already posted this.

The plan calls for a building containing office space, basketball practice facilities, weight rooms, training rooms, and an indoor practice bubble. To acomodate this, building planning is underway to relocate the baseball field behind the football stadium at the south end.

I know that the plan has been to move the baseball field to the south side of the football stadium but the last time I asked the AD how the funding was going for the move he said that they had not raised enough funds to move the field. So it appears that they must have come up with money from somewhere. I doubt that they would do away with the baseball program.
