Ok. We got our coach, no more KMo..it's all about Charley Molnar!

So..let's start talking about the program, the coaching staff and recruiting!

The search is over. The Revolution starts now!

One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet: at the press conference, the coach said that any type of qb can fit into his offense, so our "pro-style" QBs shouldn't be an issue, at least as far as playing style is concerned. That said, I bet he'll still try to diversify our personnel and recruit an athletic qb that can run. Curious to see what kind of players we end up signing.

I may be naive, but I hope we are not going to renege on kids who have signed a letter.

NLI can't be signed till the first week of February 2012. Just verbals at this point.

^^^^^

and a side note to Max's post, at this point, its too late in the recruiting process to start over. Could some of ND current players/recruits decide to come here, sure. Could some of Umass's current recruits decide not to come, sure. But, since he needs to build a staff/infrastructure first, he doesn't have the luxury at this time to say thanks, but no thanks. He needs to bodies to increase to 85. Any real recruiting will be more for the 2013 season.

How many guys do we actually have a verbal from? The only ones I can find are Joe Jones, RB from North Gwinnett, GA and Rodney Mills, a WR who was originally class of 2011 but decided to prep. I take it we must have more than those 2 verbals at this point?

Also, I think the guys we already have on the roster are pretty talented. Lots of two stars and even a few 3 star recruits in the younger classes who just haven't seen much time yet. I would guess we already have some MAC level talent, we just don't have as much as the other teams we'll be competing against.

The question is how many offers do we have floating out there..in theory he shouldn't pull those, but it's not unheard of to do so after a coaching change..I've only seen the 2 verbals noted on various sites..it's hard to say the number of offers that have been extended. I am assuming that has been a big function of Coach Dees and why he is the only still on board from KMo's staff. Does anyone know how many scholarships we can give out this year? I am assuming it'll be a large class..is there an NCAA mandated cap?

My understanding for FBS scholarships is 85 overall and 25 reserved each year for first year students. Of course there are ways around this that you see all the time. For example if a team had 25 to give last year and only used 20 then they would have 5 leftover for players to enroll in December. Often these are transfers/JUCO's and kid's who graduate HS early. I'm sure there are even more ways to play with the numbers but that is my understanding.

However I'm not sure with us if we are able to take extra to try and get up to the 85 limit due to the fact we are transitioning.

Go Umass!

I believe 25 is the max for one season. I don't think there's any issue with pulling an offer if an athlete hasn't committed yet. The issue is, are there more commitments that we don't know about? As mentioned, only 2 verbals we know of right now.

Derek Beck, who signed a NLI in Feb. of 2011, went to prep school in the fall but was supposed to be coming to UMass In January. He is a talented WR who only got better and faster in prep school. He was getting interest in prep school from Michigan and Michigan State and some other big 10s. He and Marken Michel could be the future of the receiving core.

True Freshman QB Mike Wegzyn was recruited by Molnar when he was at Cincinnati. As I understand it, when Brian Kelly took the ND job the Cincy staff split - half went to ND and half went to Buffalo. Wegzyn's file ended up with the Buffalo coaches and Wegzyn was #1 on Buffalo's board and made him his first offer. I think we have a QB that Molnar already knows and likes.

Matty V makes note of it in this article:

I seem to remember in an article shortly before KMo was released, he stated he had 8 commitments. I however have only heard about the three already mentioned above.
