We have technically 1600 registered users here. If just HALF of those committed to a plate, that would leave only 800 needed from the remaining 250k plus alumni base in the state. If we can't get this done this time, well that's just an effing shame.

Wish I could but I don't live in Mass. I have to live with my Moose plates. I hope this flies and someday when I return to my roots (WMass) I can buy one--- if I,m still driving then......

A point of clarification, there are approximately 230,000 alumni worldwide and of those 230,000 49% or 112,500 alumni live in Mass.

Quick Update: Just because I was curious, I called the Alumni Assn today and asked to speak with someone about the license plate project. I was connected to Elena, an Alumni Assn Communications person, who said that they're about halfway toward the initial 1500 goal. Most of that has come from e-mail solicitations only and a regular postal mailing should hit sometime right around now. She was fairly optimistic about hitting the 1500, plus the extras they would need for those who end up not following through.

If you want to apply for a plate but haven't done so yet, you can do it online here: http://umassalumni.com/licenseplate/index.html

Is there a deadline on when they decide whether or not they get enough pre-orders?

^ Last time around, they did the drive around the same time of year, trying to get campus admins. to collect the toll via the students before graduation and summer break...then, devised an "exit strategy" to opt out when the #s were not attained.

hopefully, different this time around.

My hope is that this is still a priority considering what happened with the AA over the last few weeks and that report and all that.

Finally dropped my app in the mail today. Of course, on the envelope, I wrote "UMASS Alumni Association" rather than include the "Amherst" they tell you to on the mailing address. I hope they still get it.

It is an application to sign up for it, yes. I had to fill out a form with my name, number, address, how many I wanted, etc. That's pretty much the defenition of an application.

^ not an argument ...
it is not an app for a license plate that has yet to have been established @ the RMV...more of a sign-up feeler list for those who want to get one when it is a done deal...

The previous go-around was an app (with $check, as required)...
